uh oh...

I'm getting a "Service Vehicle Soon" message on the instrument panel when I start the car. No other messages, but I haven't tried to drive it yet. A DTC scan with Car Scanner is showing P0AA1(68) on the BECM. FordPass isn't showing any error/message, but it IS updating with the current charge status (so I know it's talking to the car.)

Can someone with PTS (@Mike G @Mach-Lee @rugedraw) access please pull up my VIN and tell me if something is being reported to the mothership 3FMTK4SE9PMA57193

Not sure what to do now. "Service Vehicle Soon" isn't really helpful.

Not an expert but I looked up the code and it stated “contactor stuck closed”. I hope that is not the case and it is better news.

No code report since you haven't driven it yet afterwards, but P0AA1 would be a bad HVBJB.

I was afraid of that. I'm guessing there's no sense calling Ford on a Sunday night.

Well, hopefully I get a loaner vehicle.

Drove it around the block. Same “service vehicle soon”. Car also feels lethargic. And I guess this is what the infamous jail bars look like:

With my car not covered under any of the HVBJB related recalls that I can find, what kind of experience can I expect to have tomorrow with the dealership? When I talk to them, should I reference the 2021/2022 recall (23S56) or would that be useless information because it doesn't include MY 2023's?

Can anyone offer any advice for encouraging them to give me a loaner?

That what mine looked like. Don’t bother with the recall number since it doesn’t apply to your car. That will just confuse things. Just tell them the symptoms and the DTC. No clue on a loaner. Every dealer is different. The dealer I took mine to offered to give me a ride to a car rental company since they don’t offer loaners. I hope your dealer treats you better than the one I took mine to treated me. ??

With the recall, they are supposed to give you a loaner or a Ford paid rental....

Yeah, but the recall doesn’t apply to a failed part. Many aren’t even offering loaners on the cars doing the recall. Totally depends on the dealer. ??

There isn't a TSB for 2023s, but it's covered under the vehicle warranty. Tell them to follow standard diagnostic pinpoint tests for code P0AA1 in the service manual. The service manual will direct replacement of the HVBJB.

Thanks. I'm kind of feeling sorry for myself right now. Car is less than 2 months old and it's already broken.

I'll cross my fingers for a loaner (or at least a Ford paid rental) and a quick repair.

Infant mortality on these things. Sometimes bad parts get through.

Gary, here's what it looks like in the VHA screen:
Ford Mustang Mach-E '23 (job1) service vehicle soon 3FMTK4SE9PMA57193-28-Jul-24

Don't be surprised if they hook up with FDRS and simply do a BECM reset and then a test drive and hand you back the car if the DTC doesn't show back up. It happened to me. And it hasn't happened since.

Attached is the SSM referenced by that DTC.

There is a long thread on HVBJB failures with a number to contact the BEV team at Ford and some other information. Now that Ford has done the recall I am not so sure they are treating people with failures the same as they did prior to the recall.

Thank you. I'm happy to see it showing in PTS. That _should_ make things easier at the dealership. I hope you're right about them doing a BECM reset and that fixing the issue.

I read over the monster first post in that thread, and one thing that surprised me (in a good way) was that I'm "only" seeing a SVS with a P0AA1 code. That post suggests a P0AA1 usually shows a SSN and prevents starting the car.
