Because most of the remarks were delivered by the CFO and not Jim Farley, some speculation on Reddit etc that Farley's time at Ford may be at risk.

If Farley does leave Ford (again, just speculation by random redditors), anyone see a risk for future Ford EV support? How much of the EV efforts at Ford are due to Farley vs the Ford family etc?

Bill Ford Jr. has always been an environmentalist. So imagine that EV's have the family’s support.

Great. Like we need more boxy non-aerodynamic EVs when the masses really need are sensible commuter and family friendly vehicles at an attainable price. Do Americans really go to Home Depot or hunt deers everyday?

Perhaps Ford realises that they really do not have a chance in hell to compete with foreign brands when it comes to non-truck EVs? Therefore sticking to the last bastion of vehicle segment?
I had so much hope for Ford or GM to step up to the EV plate to take on Tesla years ago. I felt I have bet on the wrong horses.
Ford's closed the gap massively to Tesla on most fronts in recent years, and is almost certainly gonna beat Tesla to the punch when it comes to affordable, sensible EVs. So where it actually matters for mass adoption.

Ford's EVs and hybrids are showing impressive year over year gains, whereas Tesla's EV dominance is essentially coming to an end.

Does Ford even build or ever built an EV that was a Farley product?

I don't think so.

Farley should get the scorn or praise for the products Ford builds or doesn't build in maybe 2026?

Just keep looking.... yes keep scrolling down....wayyyyy down. Yes. There it is...Ford. Yup next to Jeep. I didn't know Jeep made any EVs!
Somehow I really don't think Tesla considers Ford in its competition radar.

Some strong shit you're drinking. Put it down before someone gets hurt.

I overheard one of those global automotive analysts that basically said, in the EV landscape, legacy makers are like lions and tigers. Tesla is the T-Rex. Chinese brands.... Godzilla.

Stock analysts are not noted for their effective use of simile and metaphor.

Lions and tigers exist. T Rex and Godzilla ... do not.

Ford is still struggling to find what works in this space without the costs being out of control. Rumor says the 3-row SUV had a smaller battery to save costs and had to be made super aerodynamic to try to get a decent range figure, but aerodynamic=ugly, and as soon as you tow anything or go uphill the range would really plummet. A hybrid would be a lot simpler and cheaper, hopefully it's a plug-in with a 20 kWh battery to get enough range for an average commute.

With all the recent changes to the Mach-E, I can tell they're really laser focused on reducing as much cost as possible. That means big battery packs are out of the question. GM has taken the opposite strategy to put large expensive battery packs in their big EVs and doesn't care if they cost six figures.

The new Skunkworks pickup is supposed to be midsize (a new Ranger EV?) and should hopefully appeal to people who can't afford the F-150 Lightning, similar to the success of the Maverick. The new EV van will be a welcome replacement for the E-Transit. The current Transit platform was not designed for BEV and has a Mach-E battery pack and rear motor shoehorned into it. Hopefully the new van will be better suited and will have more range.

T3 being delayed is a bit disappointing for the Lightning folks, I hope it's a hit with all the time spent on it.

Where does that leave the current platform? Will they continue to give us "regular" updates or will it be shifted to a run and maintain mode? I'm assuming FordSync will be a thing moving forward right... right?
I think 2026 will be the final model year for the Mach-E. I don't expect much in terms of hardware changes in that time, NACS charge port will probably be the final major change. Heat pump probably isn't happening. I expect them to be heavily decontented by that point, perhaps the GT will not even make it to the last model year. But I expect some kind of SUV replacement afterwards, perhaps based on the same platform as the midsize truck, but we don't know much about that yet. Could be a different platform too. I really hope it has a centralized module architecture so we can get past all the pain of software updates we've had.

Larger plug-in hybrids with a 50kWh of battery could make sense for the next ten years of so. If the charging network is ever built out. Even long road trips could have more than half the mileage covered by batteries.
But the added cost to the PHEV platform would not be cost effective compared to hybrid and ice models. Toyota Prime RAV 4 is significantly more expensive than the hybrid version and the Prime only has a 17kWh battery pack.

Man, solid state batteries cannot get here soon enough. All of this arguing about range, cost, etc will seem so quaint. A decade, maybe? Fingers crossed.

As for the MME, maybe we get a refresh in 25 or 26 but it's hard to see another generation happening based on what Ford has announced.

Beat Tesla to the punch selling affordable EVs?? Tesla has been selling extremely affordable Model 3s and Ys for a couple years now…. and they’re doing it profitably. Say whatever you want about how their cars look or what you think of Elon, but they are currently achieving things that are still a pipe dream at Ford.

Ford is still way behind on software too. Tesla delivers monthly updates to FSD and highly requested new features all of the time. And there isn’t a constant barrage of people dealing with failed updates or being months or years behind on updates like many Ford owners are. We are stuck waiting YEARS for simple updates like charging speed displayed in-vehicle or BlueCruise improvements. It’s such a night and day difference in end user experience.

Maybe it’s just me. But I think when people talk about affordable cars they are thinking a starting MSRP 10-15k+ cheaper than 40k.

I wouldn’t say Tesla is extremely affordable. There cheapest model stripped down to RWD small battery is still about 40k that I saw on their website.

I don't know how anyone could this article seriously. What value is a Farley 3-year plan when it's overhauled every 4 months based on whatever way the wind is blowing at the moment?
