Even if you have the adapter, not all Superchargers are compatible. Someone else can give you the technical details to look for. But basically, if the Tesla station doesn’t appear in FordPass, it isn’t compatible.

But yeah, until you get the right adapter, you’re limited to CCS stations.

There are two kinds of Tesla chargers. SuperChargers, and Destination Chargers. They use different adapters. FIT is not the issue.

You tried using a level 2 adapter, designed for 48amps, which is basically an overnight process, on a SuperCharger designed to charge in 30 or 40 minutes.

You need an adapter like A2Z's Typhoon Pro, which costs $193.50 with code FORDFORUM. You also need to use a Tesla SuperCharger that permits your use.

Are all Tesla SuperChargers open to us. NO. Why not? A) Some are too old. B) Some are too congested.

How do I know which Tesla SuperChargers I can use? Use the link below. "Open to Other EVs" means no adapter is needed, it's built-in, i.e. a "Magic Dock". "Open to NACS" means you need your adapter.

What does the icon look like or is there something different on the map for a magic dock? I know there’s not many of them correct?

So when I clicked the link, it brings up a map and I was just wondering where it showed magic docks on the map, sorry if I’m not getting this.

OK, so when you click on a charging station, is this what you’re saying means there’s a magic dock there?

This Supercharger is Open to Tesla and Other EVs with CCS compatibility

Keep the Lectron you have, it might come in handy at a hotel with only Tesla destination chargers. Some hotels have only J1772 (bottom flap closed), some have both, and some only Tesla. These are the L2 (overnight) like you have at home.

The confusing thing about the Tesla plug is that you really can’t easily tell the difference between Supercharger and L2 by looking at only the plug. Big cabinet, fast charging with the caveats mentioned above. Small box on top of pole, overnight charging. Tesla uses software to tell the car what type of power is being delivered. Whereas the MME has a CCS (fast—flap down), combined with a J1772 (overnight—flap closed).

You’re doing fine. There is a learning curve. Agree it can be a little nerve wracking, but you’ll get used to it. I’ve driven from western North Carolina to Chicago and Minneapolis several times by myself. Will be headed to NJ later in the fall.

Welcome to EV Land!

Use the filter buttons.

"Superchargers" = Tesla use only
"Superchargers Open to Other EVs" = Magic Dock
"Superchargers Open to NACS" = Works with your own adapter

I kind of figured it out what has what but when I click on that link and it brings up just a map of the United States of the world or whatever where do you go to click on filters? I don’t see any menu if I click on the menu there’s nothing under there that says filters that I can tell.?

It's that row of boxes under the location search box. Click those on and off as desired.

On a phone screen, you'll need to drag that list left or right to see all the filter choices.

Lol I got it. I was scrolling below that and the map was moving so I didn’t see those other categories. Thanks. I was looking for the word filter.

I select "Other EVs" and "NACS" (since I have an adapter) and zoom into my region of the country. Then I save that webpage as an icon on my phone, and drag it next to my Tesla app. Makes for a quick and easy reference for road trip planning.

Thanks MellowJohnny!

Yeah, I ended up using a couple of non-Tesla DCFC (without needing an adapter, of course). That was definitely faster than an L2 like the one I have at home. Next time, I want to try a Tesla SuperCharger. I don't want all these apps (I accrued at least 3 new ones on the trip).
If you set up your blue oval account in connected services, you can just use the Ford pass app to start charging at 90% of the chargers Including tesla. Turning on plug and charge allows you to just plug in and charge at EA stations, and Tesla stations with the correct adapter. I have the other companies apps downloaded and ready as a back up, but i just use the ford pass apP.

I figured since I have a Lectron Tesla to J1772 EV Adapter | 250V | 48 Amp I'd be able to use a Tesla Supercharger. Long story short, it didn't work and it was a mess.
I have that same adapter. If you go to PlugShare and set the Filters / Network to only show "Tesla Destination" (NOT Supercharger), you'll see where it works. This will be overnight charging, typically at a hotel.

I've only used it once or twice. It's nice as a back up since these chargers are not well maintained. There's usually a combination of those and J1722, but you never know which ones will be working and available.

The terminology is very technical; I'm sure many people have made that same mistake.
