Hey all! Proud new owner of a 2024 Mach-E GT in Star White Metallic Tri-coat. I’ve had it for (1) week and a couple of days, so it’s very new to me.

I washed it yesterday for the first time (by hand) and came across all these little brown spots on the hood. At first, I thought they were dried bug guts from some highway outings. As I washed it though, I realized they were not coming off and felt to be pitted. Photos below. It looks like rust to me. Dark center and a bleeding effect outward. The car was produced in July, so it’s (2) months old and not like it was sitting on a lot for forever.

Should I be concerned? These little blemishes are small (yes, you’ll have to zoom in), but they’re all over the hood. The rest of the car seems to be unaffected.

My guess is that they are not rust spots but rather some sort of particles or contaminants that landed on the paint. They may be embedded in the paint and the regular car wash could not remove them.

Its hard to know the best way to remove them without knowing what the particles are. Here are some possible ways to clean off these spots on your hood:

1) Clay bar and lube - Use a clay bar or synthetic clay mitt and lots of lube to clay off the spots.

2) White vinegar or All Purpose Cleaner - There is a possibility that those dark spots could actually be some sort of mold or fungus. Is your car parked near any damp vegetation within a 25 ft radius of where you park your car? If it is mold or fungus particles, you can try white vinegar or an automotive all purpose cleaner that is safe for car pains, such as Optimum Power Clean.

3) Iron remover - The dark spots could be iron particles. You could try an iron remover like Iron-X to remove them. If you spray the spots with the iron remover and they turn purple, then they are probably iron particles.

Why does my new car have small orange dots on the paintwork? This is caused from fallout. Fallout can come from trains, industrial factories and shipping yards. As new cars get transported around a lot they are easily susceptible to fallout.

Thank you all for the suggestions! I hadn’t heard of Fallout or even known it existed, but that seems to be the most probable cause. Would Ford cover that under the warranty, or am I responsible for it? I’d rather they address the issue instead of me potentially damaging the paint if it’s something that can be fixed under warranty.

No, this is not a warranty item. Cleaning contaminants from your paint is considered normal car maintenance and is the responsibility of the owner. I suggest you do the following:

Wash your car again to clean off any dirt, dust etc.
Next dilute some Optimum Power Clean 3 parts water to 1 part Power Clean . Make sure the paint is cool and in the shade. Then spray the diluted Power Clean onto a small area of contaminants. Let it dwell for 20-30 seconds, then wipe it off with a clean microfiber towel. Rinse the cleaned area to make sure all the Power Clean is rinsed off.

If the spots are still there, next apply an Iron Remover. Since fallout often has little bits of metal in it, the iron remover may work.

Finally, if the spots are still there, then use a clay bar.

Or just take it to a reputable professional car detailer and ask them to remove it.

Once your paint is clean and free of the spots, I suggest you a apply a ceramic coating to reduce the chance of the same thing happening again.

If you were to watch the new delivery vehicles get unloaded from the transport trucks at some dealerships, you'd be in awe of how filthy some of them arrive. A long rail car ride can cover the vehicle in contaminates, and honestly, I'm not sure I want the dealership to try more than just washing it up for me to pick it up. Would rather they not wipe across the iron particles that the railway ride contributes to the surface.

And then as suggested, have a pro do a proper decontamination of that glorious Tricoate White you have.

Congratulations on the new ride.

Hello : Yes I would be concerned ! Here's what Happen. My 1st car Came of the truck with Damage !! I spun OUT (LOL) . I would not except it . The second car Offered to me , Had horrible Roof paint ( ( (OUT GASSING) . I excepted it , On the premise that they repaint the roof of the car. 2 Weeks later I got it back and the car's roof looked GREAT. The rest of the car looked horrible. ! Damn I can not get a BREAK ! I was having Ceramic Pro Paint Protection Film , Applied to the A Pillars & the whole front of the car. It all came out great! I'm still thinking you should not have to pay for for Paint Correction done , Because of FORD's poor paint work . _PTE_

Should I be concerned? These little blemishes are small (yes, you’ll have to zoom in), but they’re all over the hood. The rest of the car seems to be unaffected.

I believe they are road particals from brake dust that gets on the cars paint from driving.
