My partner took the Mustang in for the HVBJB recall work. A few hours later they tell her it's done... Huh?

I think my understanding was wrong.

Further investigation (I can't find the specific document) into what's going on makes me think the "de-energization" procedure is not a complete battery drain; it's a procedure to disconnect the HV battery contacts from the rest of the system.

Getting zapped by batteries is a bad thing. Shorting batteries out is a bad thing too. Starting the recall process at step two is also a bad thing. Boy, you’d think there’d be a step by step guide, maybe published by Ford or something. :p

De-energize is a program run in FDRS that programs the BECM not to allow any high voltage relays to turn on, and it does some additional checks to make sure everything is turned off before entering safe mode. The battery cells inside the pack stay live the whole time. As an additional precaution, the updated procedure requires removing the mid-pack busbar before the HVBJB is disconnected. Once the repair is completed, the procedure is reversed. Again, the cells aren't actually drained and finish the repair with the same voltage they started at.

I just had my HVBJB replaced on 9/1/24. I dropped the car off the afternoon before so they could get right to work the next morning. I received a call from the dealership about 4:30 that afternoon that the car was finished and I could pick it up. Since the dealer is 40 miles away, I told them I would pick it up the next morning. When I got there they showed me a picture of my car on the lift with the high voltage battery pack suspended below. They also showed me the old junction box that they had replaced. they also replaced a connector and reprogramed three control modules. I assume that they started sometime around 8:00 am so I was impressed that they got it done that fast. Another reason I was impressed was because they had never replaced a HVBJB before. So far so good. The car is running just fine.

Depends upon whether you want the car to be drivable afterwards or not. ;)
Ah, yes a drivable car. I allow OTAs hoping the MME will someday be one. For now, and the last 6+years, our Bolt fills the bill.

Nothing wrong with the Bolt (Not a joke, there is no punchline).

My Mach-e is 44 months old. Nary an issue that wasn’t owner induced. I do, however, generally try to remember not to shift from drive into reverse unless stopped. That might explain part of it. ;)

I thought there was only one speed and the motor turned backward for reverse.
Yes. There's no "traditional" transmission that changes gears (or even a CVT that has a continuous adjustment of "gear" ratio)

That's what is blowing everyone's minds: that a service rep didn't even know that. To be fair to them, the recall instructions say (paraphrased) "if applicable, warn the customer that the transmission may need to relearn their driving habits."

Wrong, two. Forward and reverse.
Technically, it’s one gear and doesn’t shift. The motor runs in reverse when “R” is selected on the silly little dial. ??

It does not have a transmission, He is smoking crack
Since the unit contains a differential it’s a transaxle. Ford still calls it by the name “transmission” unfortunately. ??

I had a Bolt also. Little thing would scoot pretty good since it was so light.
