My partner took the Mustang in for the HVBJB recall work. A few hours later they tell her it's done... Huh?

They did try to run updates on the modules that they didn't replace. Those updates, unsurprisingly, failed.

The tech told the rep that the hardware didn't need to be replaced if the updates didn't run.
It sounds like it would be worth the day to seek out a different dealer. Understand the frustration but since your "partner"(that term always makes me laugh....what happened to Girl Friend, or Wife....but I digress.....the get off my lawn kid is coming out) is willing to help, send her, him or they for the day.

Tell him if he throws in an oil change he’s got a deal!
I’ve actually had two dealers offer oil changes on the Mach-e, I had to call them out on their bull $hit. The dealership my friend works at is brand new and has equipment just for the electric vehicle service, they don’t lift by the frame, they have a portable lift, that lifts by the wheels for battery removal. My2021 was lifted and dropped by the frame “ The Ford Way”!

This dealer is decidedly anti-EV. I think they were part of the group that threatened Ford with a lawsuit for trying to require dealers to know something about the EVs they were going to be expected to service. The problem is that they're the only Ford dealer within 50 miles and the next closest dealer is also anti-EV. The nearest EV-friendly dealer is more than an hour away.

So my partner thought she would try this dealer because it's only 15 minutes away.

They apparently did some kind of module update with FDRS (I don't have a license so I can't verify they did anything meaningful). They reset the trip computers, so now I have to rebuild the lifetime efficiency tracking.

We got what I expected.

The transmission didn't shift any differently on the drive home. The service rep was very clear that I should expect, according to something they were reading on the screen, a harder shift behavior as the vehicle re-learns my driving behavior. Did they try to update my Mach-E as if it were an ICE? I don't know...

Unfortunately, it sounds like you'll need to take that 1 hour trip to a EV-friendly dealership.

Ok............sorry for all your trouble in this case.....but, I had the exact same thing happen to me.

Dealer scheduled the recall and gave me a loaner MME. First thing next day called and said it was complete. When I picked it up was told it just needed an update and all was good. Recall notice did not leave Ford Pass. A month later the Ford Recall Team called me and wanted to know if I was ready to have he recall done. Relayed my story and they said, No, not how this works. So they 3 way called the dealer and we scheduled another appointment.

When I dropped of my car I was told no loaner was available. I called the Recall Team and lo and behold a loaner appeared shortly. A few days later Recall Team called to see if I was happy, told them dealer was still waiting on the part. Again, they said not how this was supposed to work. Dealer should have ordered the part before I dropped off my car. 2 days later I get my car back and the recall had actually been completed this time.

Honestly, I think I'm done with Ford after this. I love my MME and will keep it for a while longer. My next EV will not be a Ford tho. The cars are fine, the service and tech experience have not been pleasant

that's a bad dealer issue, and yes we can all say Ford should do something about that, BUT ford dealers are independent owners so that's easier said than done.

I've been using Chapman Ford in Scottsdale. They did my recall and kept the car for 2 days. They gave me a loaner for the time without my car. Very good dealership

The recall isn't specifically for an update. It's a parts replacement. HVBJB, coolant, sealant, and fastners. Ford authorizes up to 6 hours of labor on that recall. ??
This is the part I don't get.

There is a detailed process. If you don't do what's in the recall, you didn't do the recall. How/why can the service writer or tech just be like "No thanks, fam." and that's it?

Aren't they required to do it?

One would think that if they were doing the recall they need to follow its directions, yes. In my case it wasn’t a recall so they could easily go off on their own. I would expect a recall to be handled as the published remedy calls for. I don’t know what to say other than that they should be following the remedy that Ford published with the NHTSA. ??

EDIT: I should note that there are some dealers who will not do any safety recalls at all. I guess the fact that they are known to be that way up front makes it somewhat better than only doing part of the job and lying to the customer about it. ??

Got a VERY DEEP SIGH from the Ford rep when I explained what had happened so far.
"I'm not sure what they think they're doing."

We're going to try the dealer who is an hour away.

This isn't a Ford-the-manufacturer issue (yes, yes, the recall is caused by a manufacturing issue, but that's not the point of this thread).

This is 100% a dealership issue.

Yep.
The Ford rep asked me if I'd like to have them try to get the local dealer to fix things and I said I'd prefer not to continue any kind of relationship with that dealer.
