Unfortunately, my dealership beat me to grabbing the Virginia "MACH-E" plate. Back in 2019/2020 when I ordered/etc I had planned to grab it when I got closer to production (I think we can reserve plates for like 3 months or something in VA), then next thing I knew the manager at the dealership slipped that they'd already grabbed it.

So I immediately ordered "MACH-EV" instead and had it on my Hyundai Veloster for a while before I actually took delivery....

I drive it out in public, so why not?
Maybe this?

Law enforcement agencies generally advise against posting your license plate online, though there isn't always an official law preventing you from doing so. Their guidance is based on privacy and security concerns. Here are some common points that law enforcement typically highlights:

  1. Privacy Protection: Law enforcement often emphasizes the importance of protecting personal information. While a license plate by itself may not seem sensitive, it can be linked to personal details, and in the wrong hands, it could lead to identity theft or fraud.
  2. Avoiding Criminal Misuse: Police warn that sharing your license plate online can make you vulnerable to plate cloning or fraud. Criminals may duplicate your plate and use it on another vehicle to commit traffic offenses or crimes, which could falsely implicate you.
  3. Safety Concerns: Law enforcement agencies highlight that posting identifiable information, such as your license plate along with photos showing your location, can expose you to potential risks like stalking or harassment. Criminals could use it to track your vehicle and, by extension, your movements.
  4. Legal Headaches: Officers often caution that by publicly sharing your license plate, you may become involved in legal complications, like disputing traffic tickets or violations caused by someone who cloned your plate.
In general, law enforcement suggests being cautious about what personal details you share online, including your license plate. They encourage people to blur or obscure license plates in photos shared on social media or other public platforms to minimize these risks.

This is all true for any car driving or parked outside. I can walk in my neighborhood and get at least 10 physical plates. Or go to an apartment complex and get 100s. If you want front and back, that will cost you extra.

Posting your plate while committing a crime is a different story.

One example: Posting your plate here ties it to every post you have made on this site. You and I both know that sometimes people include a lot of personal information in their posts. But answer me this, what benefit, if any, is there to posting you license plate number on the Internet? Also a lot of people use their profile name on other sites like you do on Linkedin.

I understand Norm's security concerns when posting license plates. It's something I won't be doing with any new plates going forward. However, I've posted mine here many times (and other social media) so hopefully one more time won't hurt. Here's my contribution to this thread with my CA plate.

This is a thread about license plates. My username is my name, because I thought that was going to be login and not my alias. But I don’t care.

We can’t have your sort of license plates in UK, we have to show ingenuity with the standard legal format, illegally spacing and placement of characters.

Once saw 130 LOX incorrectly spaced as if it should’ve read BOLOX (bollocks) ??‍♂ and on a Rolls Royce ?

Mine is JB64 MSB. JB is wifey’s initials, 64 because it tell her she’ll soon be 64 (?) and MSB my initials.

Not as good as yours over the pond but the best I could do, and that cost me c£700 as a one off purchase!

Mothers was PJB 7 in the 1970s probably worth £20,000 in today’s money.

My point was, with all the posts here, a Linkedin profile and who knows what else a person might post on social media, what possible positive reason is there for someone posting their license plate on the Internet?
