Bought a '21 Select Party to Party. Prior Owner had 2 years left on BlueCruise. Is it transferable to me?

Hi all,

I thought I would find an answer to this via search, but I didn't. I know Ford says that Bluecruise is not transferable to a new car, it stays with the VIN. They seem to say that it applies to the Car/Account combination? The previous owner said he thought it was transferable. When I go to the Cruise Control menu, Lane Centering with Hands Free is not an option. Is there a way for me to use the rest of the subscription? Thanks.

Yes, it stays with the VIN.

First thing you need to do, if you haven't already, is a Master Reset to disconnect the prior owner. Then, you go into Ford.com and setup an account (if you don't have one). Then add the VIN.

Since you bought a Select, the real question is whether you even can have handsfree. See picture below. If you don't have that screen between the arrows, no handsfree...

Thanks, yes, it does have the bluecruise sensor. The prior owner used it and had a subscription with two years left on it. My son actually bought it. He did do the reset and set up his account in the Ford Pass app. Does he need to go to Ford.com also? Thanks.

This is what I've heard too, that it's not transferable. It's a combination of the vehicle and the owner.

Which makes sense from Ford's perspective. The prior customer paid for the subscription service for their use. Now the new owner needs to buy the subscription service. Just like how the previous owners Sirius XM subscription would not tranfer to a new owner if they buy the car used.

So let me see if I have this right.

Vehicle has BlueCruise. Owner A sells it to Owner B. Owner B doesn't get BlueCruise, and Owner A can't transfer it to a new to them vehicle.

No, that makes no sense, especially if it's the initial 3 years free.

You can cancel Sirius XM.

I would just road-test it and see if it works.

I can't get it to work. It just allows Adaptive Cruise Control. When I go to the Cruise Control menu, Lane Centering with Hands Free is not an option.

On the Fordpass app, when you go to the connected services menu, what does it say? Message me the VIN and I'll poke around and see if I see anything preventing it from working.

That's my understanding.

It's a subscription/service. In your scenario the BC subscription was sold to Owner A not Owner B. I didn't say it makes sense from a customer perspective. Ford wants to sell more subscriptions.

It gives options for the different subscription plans available that he can pay for.

This really sucks if true. I purchased the 3-years-for-$600 (used FordPass points for about 1/3 of it) thinking it would be transferable with the car if I had planned to sell it in the next 3 years as it might be a selling perk. (not that I expected to recoup much money, but it would be something that I could highlight as a bonus)

@Ford Motor Company can you chime in on this?

PS: I have no plans to sell my MME anytime soon, but would like to know the answer just in case.

UPDATE: Answering my own question, no, it's not transferable per the FAQ at https://www.ford.com/support/category/technology/bluecruise/ Yet another lesson in me not reading the fine print.

Ford Mustang Mach-E Bought a '21 Select Party to Party. Prior Owner had 2 years left on BlueCruise. Is it transferable to me? 1729086652174-3o

UPDATE 2: Re-reading that, it doesn't actually explicitly state that it's not transferable to the new owner of the vehicle it's associated to though.

Are you sure there were really 2 years left on the subscription? Unless they changed the rules starting this month, the 2 years should have stayed with the VIN.

I bought a 22 GT used and it came with the remainder of the BC subscription (it worked with minimal effort on part). What I don't know (and I'm sure someone else here can answer) is did the initial 3 years come included in the 22 GT purchase price, or did the original owner buy a 3 year subscription?

It would have come with the 3yr sub.

My '23 J1 GT came with a 3yr sub. The '23 J2 cars (2023.5 -> ) only come with a 90 day trial.

It's one of the reasons my '23 was more expensive than the same car made two months later.

@jake14mw So when did the original owner purchase the renewal subscription?

Cause I'm trying to wrap my head around the dates. The original 'trial' BC 1.0 on a '21 model would have expired Dec 31st of 2023 (if I'm remembering this right). So the original owner then renewed....when?
