Warrant Void if you Use A2Z Adapter to charge my Mache

I just called Ford to find out when I would get my adapter for Tesla chargers. It has been put off for a few more months, but in the process of having the conversation, I mentioned that in order to take a trip, I was thinking of just going ahead and ordering an adapter from A2Z. I was promptly told that if I used an adapter other than from Ford, it would void my warranty on the car. I was totally taken off guard with that bit of info. Does anyone have any information on this and just what damage it could cause.

I call BS on that statement from the Ford rep. I haven’t read the warranty agreement carful enough to know for sure, but that’s like saying if you use ChargePoint instead of EA to charge your car, it will void your warranty.

Regardless, they can't void your warranty unless they can directly attribute the use of said adapter to the problem you are experiencing.

I agree but was surprised to be given that info, when we can charge at Tesla stations but have no way of doing so, except by buying an adapter. Just thought I would pass it on.

Once the A2Z, Lectron, or Ford adapter is removed from the car after use, how would anyone prove that any of them had been attached at some point? All of them have been proven to work for their intended purpose by plenty of users, and I haven’t heard of any of them causing any harm or damage to any car. What potential warranted damage could conceivably be caused to a car by any of the three? They are nothing more than well-engineered adapters.

I'm not at all surprised to hear that kind of statement. Technically, the Ford adapter is the only approved/supported adapter right now. I'd expect to hear the same thing at nearly any dealer service department. 1) the people you're talking to don't know any better in the first place (re: magnuson-moss act) and 2) it's just simpler for them to tell you something voids your warranty when there's a "properly approved" part that you didn't use so they don't have to worry about fixing it.

But as mentioned, the bigger picture is that no one thing can void your entire warranty. It would just be a case that if the unapproved thing you're using identifiably causes a problem, that specific repair would not be covered by your warranty. The rest of the warranty and coverage are fine. And I REALLY wish people working in the automotive industry understood this.

What if i bought a Rivian supplied Tesla made adapter NOT sent by Ford, am i covered? I was not eligible to redeem a free adapter but was able to get a Rivian supplied one. Let's hope so!

It’s ok, not only do they now know anything about how your warranty works.

They also have no idea when Tesla will send them an adapter to send you either.

That dealer needs educated, and to read the W&P manual more closely.

Use the adapter and nothing gets damaged = warranty 100% unaffected.

Use the adapter and damage occurs = anything damaged related to the adapter use, not covered.

Simple as that. However, dealer's are independent franchise agents and do not work for Ford, so they do have flexibility when it comes to repairs to some degree. Some play ball with aftermarket components, some will just pull out the nope card once they hear or see aftermarket components.

Use the adapter if you like, just know if something happens and it can be tied to the adapter, you're likely on your own. However, A2Z and Lectron adapters are high quality and you'll be fine.

Been using a Lectron adapter for 8 months here no issues while I continue to wait on my official adapter. I don't know if it's true, but I did see on a YouTube video that I believe GM may be using Lectron adapters alongside others for their 'official' adapters (not verified), for what it's worth.

What If I borrowed the GM / Tesla or Rivian / Tesla adapter??

Makes no difference as all adapters (A2Z, Lectron, GM, Ford, Rivian) are all the same PASSIVE adapters.

More likely the charger puts out the wrong charge because of the car's comm fault is more common.

GM has approved Lectron and is shipping them to customers, along with the Tesla supplied adapter.

Simple. The charging logs would indicate the vehicle was charged at a Tesla supercharger. If you didn't use a supercharger with a magic dock (which could be determined by the station number in the logs) the only possible option was an adapter was used.
