Right, the Tesla charge update just makes Plug and charge work with Tesla. If you have a Tesla account and use that to activate, you are just dealing directly with Tesla for payment rather than paying FordPass in order to pay Tesla. ??
So, any car manufacturer can charge at Tesla now, since you do not actually need the Tesla software update just the physical adapter???

Previously the OTA update enabled your vehicle's VIN to be authenticated by the Tesla servers, you believe that is no longer necessary?

So update after the trip:
The @A2ZEV worked great with zero issues. The trip was 678 miles (339 miles each way) and I stopped six times overall at Superchargers each about an hour and a half apart. I didn't have to mess with apps or hope I had a cell signal I just needed to attach the @A2ZEV adapter plug it in and walk away. The longest charging session was under 30 minutes. This trip was in the middle of nowhere surrounded by farms, I had done this trip when I had my Chevy Bolt, and it was a lot more stressful because if a Charger was being used or broken I would have been stuck. My normal miles/kWh in the Mach-E where I live looks to be around 3 or 3.1 but in the most remote hilly terrain, it got as low as 2.5 with the car telling me the hills combined with going 65 was the issue. Overall I never had an issue where I thought I was going to get stuck or run out of charge. Blue Cruse was not helpful with it being off 90% of the time but adaptive cruise control worked great.

Not sure about any manufacturers who have not been approved by Tesla. Just that the cars from the approved manufacturers only need to have a DCFC adapter. So, any Ford BEV is OK using the Tesla app. ?‍♂?

Let me know if you have an idea where to find support for this belief. Even just a week ago it was not supported (refuted) by the some of the respected folx on the forum.

Plug and Charge does not work without the software update. Charging with the Tesla app should work without the software update. Several people have posted that it does work using the Tesla app. ?‍♂?

No.

Only Ford and Rivian.

The update enables Plug and Charge. Tesla's network identifies the manufacturer and won't allow other brands, yet.

After playing with it for about 30 minutes I found that the charger needed to be inserted into the adapter quickly with a snap or click sound, once that happened the lock could be engaged. After that the charging was seamless, I just plugged into the car and the charge started.
I have an A2Z adapter as well, and I've had the same issues. My first time at a Tesla SC, it took me a few minutes to get it right. The locking mechanism is finicky, and it takes some practice. Looking forward to road-tripping with the Mach E through the CCS deserts of West Virginia, Ohio, and northern Wisconsin this summer.

I wonder if applying a high quality car wax to the inside and outside of the adapter might make it connect more easily. It seems as if it would be less messy (and more controllable) than something you spray on the adapter.

When I first received my A2Z Typhoon adapter, it wouldn't lock. I complained to A2Z and they sent me this video to emphasize the need to snap the Supercharger NACS plug into the adapter. Why they don't include those instructions up front, I don't know.

Just like Electrify America, if you use plug-and-play to charge, Ford will levy far more than if you start your charging session with the app. If you have an EA membership plan, the charging cost is reduced by $0.13 per kWh. Likewise, if you buy a Tesla charging plan, your per kWh cost at Superchargers is reduced as well. As a result, I never use Ford plug-and-charge because it's far too expensive.

EA Pass+ discount is not fixed, it is 25%.

Tesla membership is similar.

Yep - I plan to join Tesla's supercharging membership this summer so I can enjoy the lower rates. With the miles I'm planning to put on, it's a no-brainer.

Multiple folks have tested this and Tesla Superchargers will only charge Teslas, Fords, and Rivians.

Hey all, I Just ordered my A2Z adapter and have a couple questions.

What is the maximum KW you get while using this adapter at a Tesla Supercharger?

Has anyone experienced the charge cable being too short to reach the Mach-E's charge port?

Do you need the tesla app or does the Ford Blue Network app talk to Tesla chargers also?
