Long story short my car popped an error about two months ago. Took it in immediately and they told me I needed a front drive unit. The tech did the work and took it for a test drive and something wasn't right. He called the "ford" tech line and the new person told him he should have replaced the REAR drive unit and not the front! So now he has to order new stuff and it's going to be another few weeks as I guess he is the only tech certified to do this. The first time he called Ford they said replace the front drive which was wrong. I have been without my car for six weeks and by the time I get it back it will at least be 8 weeks or more. So, I'm assuming I should be mad at Ford for giving him bad direction initially? I'm pretty ticked that now essentially the entire front AND back of my car has to get taken apart. With that kind of extensive disassembly and reassembly I'm sure there are potential issues. But do I have any recourse with Ford, etc? Thanks for any and all rational suggestions.....I've already got enough irrational ones! :)

If the Ford rep is the one that first got it wrong, ya, that's where you can direct your frustration. If anything, I'd feel some pity for the service tech, since he has to basically do the same job twice because they screwed up.

Having said that, I really don't think there's much in the way of recourse here. If they've at least provided a loaner and you have something to drive during the obviously extended time without your car, that's probably the main thing. As far as disassembling the whole car, if it's done by a certified tech, it should be basically the same as factory. I know that's not always (or even usually) the case, but that's how I'd expect Ford to see it. You could maybe see if they can throw some Ford Pass points your way, if anything.

I wonder what motors they are installing? The NEW Ford Engineered one or the OG one?

You can open a case with the Ford BEV team and try and get compensation. You can usually get gas reimbursed, along with car payments for a month or two.
This. When my 2013 Fusion's transmission rebuild took 6 weeks, I got a month's car payment reimbursed. If you don't have a car payment, I'm not sure what else you can do :(

Too much support equipment to change if they are going to install the new one. It has to be the original-spec motor. ??

That would have been a sweet deal though, that's one of the major updates for 2024 (the other major being the redesigned cooling system).

Cool. Now we know front and rear motors are interchangeable. Wonder if any drivetrain segments were negatively impacted.

Bummer. I’ve been waiting (not really) for Ford to put the ‘24 motors in the crates marked “crate motor” ….?

Wow that's quite the expensive mistake. I see you posted and Mike G looked up the codes and mentioned the rear motor (SOBDMC) needed to be replaced back in August. I guess the tech wasn't familiar enough with the terminology to catch the error.

I'm not convinced Ford told him the wrong motor, that might just be an excuse to cover his own mistake. An EV tech should know the difference between the SOBDMB and SOBDMC after dealing with a few cars.

You shouldn't have to pay for anything extra, but the dealer might have to eat the cost of the front motor replacement.

Believe me, I would love a full retrofit kit. Probably less expensive to sell mine and buy a new one though. At least the new ones have metal roofs now. ?‍♂?
