Hopefully this helps others as they begin to get adapters.

I got tired of waiting for the Ford adapter, so I bought an A2Z which was delivered a few days ago. I, of course, wanted to try it out when I noticed a bank of Tesla chargers. Here's a recap of my experience...

Went to a bank of Tesla chargers near a local mall, pulled up and away I went.

First thing - I've read it, but now experienced the fact that the charging cord was REALLY SHORT. I parked at the far right charger so I wouldn't block two of them.

On first charger, I plugged in using proper order (adapter to car, then tesla to the adapter). After a couple of minutes, my infotainment showed a charger error.

I moved over to the next charger (now I'm blocking two), and the same thing happened.

I then went to a third charger, but this time I decided to download the Tesla app (yes, of course I should have done this ahead of time, but I went to these chargers because I noticed them...wasn't a planned trip). I created an account, went through everything, added a credit card. Took maybe 5 minutes. Plugged in and IT WORKED! According to my car the charge speed was in the 80s, so not super fast (I possible incorrectly expected faster). Started at 70%. Sat there until it reached 75% (I just wanted to see it work...didn't really need to charge).

Here's something I learned.....when I went to unplug the charger that worked, the Tesla cord was absolutely stuck and would not detach from adapter. Thank God for YouTube, so I did a quick search and learned that sometimes you need to PRESS IN before pulling it out. Once I did that, no problem at all.

TLDR version-

Download app when you get the adapter so you are set up
If Tesla cord gets stuck, press in before pulling out
It's pretty awesome that I now have so many more options on trips. I won't use it often, but nice that it's there

Did you press the button next to the charging port before attempting to unplug?

Yes. The connection from adapter to tesla charger was stuck. Pushing button did not help. Sometimes you have to push it in again before removing. Worked like a charm.

Do you have Plug & Charged enabled in the Ford Pass app?

Hmmm. Got my Lectron adapter a couple of months ago, so the next day I went to the new Tesla chargers less than a mile from my house. Didn’t have the Tesla app. Plugged the adapter to the cord, plugged it to the car, and within 20 seconds it was charging with acknowledgement through the Ford app.

I must have plug and charge disabled. I saw on another thread there were some people recommending having it off and using the Tesla app. I don't remember the reasoning.

Still awaiting my adapter from Ford. I rarely public charge, so no biggie. I did have a question. Is there a way to find out which Tesla chargers allow other vehicles? A map perhaps?

The proper order of operations is to connect the adapter to the Tesla connector first, and wait a few seconds. Then to connect the adapter to your car.

As others have mentioned, make sure Plug & Charge is enabled in your car's settings. Then you don't have to mess with the Tesla app. Simply connect the adapter and car, and it will start to charge (unless you have the Tesla subscription for a lower per-Kw price - then, always use the Tesla app to initiate your charges).

Also, it's a good idea to always check that a Supercharger station is either in the car's Public Charging app or the Tesla app as "open to non-Tesla vehicles with adapter." Not all V3 and V4 Superchargers are open to us.
