Why would my tires be wearing out after only 20K miles?

Our 2022 Premium AWD tires are pretty close to needing replacement with 18k miles as well. And while spirited driving is often blamed, it's my wife's DD and she has never been one to fit that description. We have leased and owned many Ford vehicles and this MME would be the only one, ever, we have had to replace tires on before 3 years.

I bought a tread depth tester and will double check them later. We have the 3 year options plan and the MME is due back in September if we turn it in. Don't think these tires will make it, safely, to that point at this rate.

Thoughts on why my tires might be wearing out so fast? This is how all of them look after 20,000 miles. I do drive spirited on twisting hilly roads, would this be the cause?

These are my original tires on my 2021 Premium, i.e., Michelin Primacy A/S tires. They are rated at 55,000 miles.
Crikey!

Seems to be wearing evenly, is that a rear tyre?

The cracking in the grooves and outer tread blocks look like a tyre 10years old and degraded by heat, ozone, weather and other ageing factors adversely affecting their compound.

Makes me wonder if it’s due to where the car was parked/stored before you got it.

I’d be ditching those tyres and fitting something with some better tread anyway.

The mainly radial grooves are good for steering but not for drive and all round grip is my opinion.

Had similar Contis originally on mine, very poor grip nothing like the CC2s currently fitted.

Why not bite the bullet and fit some decent tyres.

There are plenty of posts vouching for various good tyres.

There was a story at GM where I worked before, tires were paid for by the pound. Purchasing will set a target price ... IE I need this widget, this is what we are prepared to pay. Who can meet our price.

Unlikely second rate tires are supplied, as unhappy car buyers would never use that brand again, as well as safety and lawsuit issues. Tire manufacturers want good PR, not the word out their stuff is trash.

Honestly, if these tires I put on the car almost immediately after acquisition, last longer than 20-25,000 miles, I won't be buying them again.

I purposely was willing to choose performance over life on this car. No different than I do on the Porsche or the motorcycles. (motorcycle high performance tires can be toast in a couple of thousand miles)

Tires and brakes. Give me the good stuff. ?

my original michelins lasted LESS than 20k, Conti dws06 looking like I might get 25k or so. The MME is a heavy car, and if you drive hard on twisty roads, it will eat tires.

also, the scrubby marks on your outside edge look to me like you may turn the wheel side to side a lot when you are not moving... perhaps when parking or J-turns when pulling out of garage ?

At 20,000 miles, our Premium's tires were at 6-7/32nds each. At this rate, I'm guessing 35,000 - 45,000 miles.

My mother goes through tires in like 10,000 miles. All of her driving is slow, turning corners, in her community. Turning slow wears right through them.

I'd be curious to see the inside shoulder too - to see if the wear is even or not. Are they all like this or just one or two?

If the wear is not even across the tire, it could be an alignment issue - though I'd expect to see more inside wear than outside. I'd expect that in most cases, anyway.

How good are you about maintaining proper tire pressures? I see you're in LA, so you don't really have seasonal fluctuation to worry about - but do you regularly check them at all (and I mean with an actual gauge, not the TPMS)?

I think my alignment is good, at least the car is planted in a straight line and doesn’t really move when I let go of the steering wheel.

I only really on the TPMS to check tire maintenance and try to keep it sr the recommended 39 PSI.

I did one tire rotation at around 8,000 miles.

Tire pressure maintenance, rotation every 10,000 miles per manual, ...
I do maintain the tire pressure at the 39 PSI as much as possible. I rotated only once albeit at around 8,000 miles.

The cracking has me thinking the heat cycling has been the culprit. These aren't performance oriented tires. There could also be an issue with leeching out the flex additives in the rubber...what are you cleaning your tires with and what dressing do you use as a tire shine?
I typically have the car wash I go to apply the tire dressing. I don't know the exact dressing they use, I want to say they advertise that it is Armor All.

For heat cycling, I have taken it up to very high speeds. But I do park outside, so I wouldn't be going from a cool garage floor to a scaling hot summer road let's say.

Hard to tell without looking at the entire surface of the tires. Just from the photo, it looks like you sometimes corner hard, which would explain the shredded appearance of those outboard blocks. Do the inboard edges look like they have a similar tread depth? If so, the middle blocks look like they have a deeper tread depth so I would suggest higher tire pressure. If not, the cornering is exposing a camber issue in which the outboard blocks are getting worn. That would mean that the suspension needs to be decambered. We need more information though. Ideallly, I would like to see thermal readings after a spirited drive too. ??
I just posted pics of all four tires, can you tell more based on that?

I came here to say "You have an AWD GT" but I see you have a Premium. I'm at 15k miles on my Premium RWD and my tires have plenty of life left. If those are original 2021 tires I'd guess age and possibly alignment have something to do with it.
Mine is the Premium AWD Standard Range - definitely not the fastest Mach-E but I do enjoy pushing it, especially around corners!

I definitely think it is time to replace them. The vehicle is four years old now if we count the few months it spent sitting in Mexico after manufacture, and I have always parked it outside, I am sure that has contributed to this. I don't recall which tire that original picture was, I posted a picture of all four tires after your post.

I need to quickly turn the steering wheel all the way to be able to do a U-Turn on my street, it happens a few times each week. But I otherwise try to be good about not turning the wheel while stationary.

I definitely do drive hard around twists, I sometimes smell the rubber when I exit the vehicle upon getting home

Lol, my Mustang GT never ate tires like this, and that one goes around the turns even faster.
