Hi! So, i have owned my 2023 Mustang Mach E for almost 2 years now. I absolutely LOVE IT but I recently got into an issue this week.
On a Monday evening, in an empty parking lot, where all my car had to do was move forward to park itself, and behind me was two poles with a chain and a crossed section on the floor that marks pretty much no parking, my friends asked if my car parked itself. I said, "I think so, here's a button for it, I've never pressed it, should I try it?"
"YES!!" So, I just pressed the button once (not holding it down) and my car started moving fairly swiftly backwards by the two poles and crashed into them and the chained fence and made a huge crash sound and I slammed on my brake so fast. I was so confused since my car has all of the sensors in the world and I got scratches and dents on my bumper and passenger door from the chains. My car didn't make any warning, or stop or sound that it was backing into something. I've done more research and found that the 2023 does not have park assist, but definitely that button on my car states otherwise because it didn't give me any option to move anywhere. It just started moving. I called the Ford Customer Relations number and they advised to take it to the Ford Dealership and they will have to run a diagnositc. They have ran it for about 2 - 3 days now and extended my loaner. I took it in on Wednesday. My issue is, is that when they called me Friday, they said my car is good to go, they didn't find anything wrong. I asked what do I do from here because these dents and scratches was due to my car moving swiftly by itself and seeming the cars sensors does not work with this feature and the service advisor told me my car does not have park assist and i said then what is that button in the middle i pressed marked "P" and made my car move then? He went to check and finally found the button I mentioned after much advisement on where to find it and my car is still in the dealership running more tests. Can anyone please help me as to what I should state to them? I feel like its really unfair for me having to pay to get my scratches and dent fixed when my car has a button advised to park assist and completely moved automatically and scraped and scratched my car.

So the car magically put it self in reverse, took your foot of the brake and wouldn’t let you brake until you hit something?

I’ll bet money that this or something very similar happened:
1. You were driving in an empty parking lot talking to your friend.
2. You want to try the P button so you reverse to a spot where it just has to pull in.
3. You press the button, the Parking Garages locator screen comes up and you take your foot off the brake expecting it to park it self.
4. You are in so much awe it is “parking itself” that you don’t realize you are backing into stuff.

Look crashing your car trying to show off an option you don’t have to a friend is one thing but blaming a “defect” that possessed the car is preposterous.

@Isabellags07 I’m not sure just what you’re looking for here.

For starters, what you did is not how active park assist works. There’s an entire menu things to select after you press the park assist button. Then more things to do once it finds a parking spot. Plus there are preconditions that must be met.

Finally, and quite importantly, your dealer isn’t fibbing. There’s nothing wrong with your car. It does not have active park assist. Pushing that button doesn’t do anything more than show nearby parking facilities on all 2023 and newer model year cars.

When you pressed that button and took your foot off the brake the car did what you told it to do. It reversed until something made it stop.

As for the scratches and dents, find a good body shop and talk to your insurance agent. As for your wounded pride, this isn’t the worst thing they could’ve happened. Live and learn.

There is no park assist in your car period.

The model year cars that do have it are 21 and 22 I believe.

And lastly the park assist is for parallel parking only…

Looks like you just messed up assuming something that isn’t a feature of the MME.

When I had park assist on my 21 Escape it could also back you into a parking space, along with parallel parking. But you are correct that no 23 models have the hardware for park assist.

I didn’t know about the backing up parking feature.

The Mach-e park assist could back you into a perpendicular parking spot, but it doesn’t matter any more as Active Park Assist will be gone from all new models quite soon. Very few people were using it.

I’ve used it a few times. There are pros and cons. The pros is that it will get you into and out of (remember, it has “park out” as well) “tight” spaces. The most major con (and this is a big one) is that there are many steps required to engage it and those few seconds can be stressful when you’re on busy surface streets and cars are behind you.

I just used mine to parallel park for the first time yesterday, works well but takes some faith and getting used to. Sounds like the OP had a little bit too much faith and not enough actual park assist installed.

I have a '23 Job 1 and it does not have auto active parking.

Pressing that button gives you a list of parking locations.

I just use the 360 cameras to park and sometimes I turn my head around to confirm.

Hope the OP has good insurance.
