got my adapter today (I am #23905) , and so excited to use it for first time
1. the cable is really short so I have to be very careful to drive it as close as possible to charging stall (turn on the front camera, so you can see it )
2. kind of weird to occup two slots , but 5 of 15 were occupied, less guilty here
3. Ford plug and charge did not work (no idea why, EA worked fine) , the charging won't start and asked me to disconnect cable. not sure whether I need do something on ford side. from youtube videos, seems nothing need to done
4. use Tesla App, select the stall number, charging started immediately , 119kw at 49% SOC, in 2 mins, 3 kwh and added 10 miles on it, better than i expected.
5. 0.45$/kwh, not sure cheaper than driving my truck, (we are in TX, gas is cheap). but glad I have an option to drive EV for long road trip even I do not see i would do that in the near future

1) Wait, wut? The cable is short?

3) Open FordPass and activate charger, then plug in, if Plug and Charge fails.

5) Cost varies by location, like every other fast charging network. Many Tesla locations also vary by time of day.

I notice that most MME drivers are paying around 45 cents per KWH. What does Tesla owners pay?

That's not correct.

Tesla Superchargers, like every other network, have prices specific to a LOCATION. Some locations, like in a state, might all be the same. Or not. Tesla ALSO has locations where rates vary by TIME OF DAY. Only EVgo to my knowledge does that at some locations also.

If you buy the membership, you get about a 20% discount (they don't state it, but that's what it works out to). According to some Tesla owners, they pay even less, but I can't confirm that, nor do I care what they pay.

Open the Tesla app or website, enter your vehicle and adapter (app), and you can then see prices at every compatible Tesla location (pre-discount). They vary widely.

One near me - midnight to 4AM is 36 cents, then it jumps to 51 cents to 1PM, then 56 cents to 8PM, then to 48 cents to midnight.

One 20 minutes away - midnight to 4AM is 35 cents, then jumps to 47 cents to NOON, then jumps to 55 cents until midnight.

One southeast of me is 52 cents 24/7.

Unlike EA, the discount is variable by location. You really have to look at each location, and frequently time of day. This makes it a bit harder to get a clear ROI on the membership. I'm assuming the break-even is around 3-4 sessions a month.

You can apparently also get into a very odd situation where FordPass switches times inaccurately compared to Tesla app which has gotten some forum members an incorrect cheaper rate at that moment.

Breakeven on memberships depends on how much you buy. In other words:

$12.99 member for ~ 20% discount. If you go from 20 to 80% on a 91kWh battery, that's 54.6kW.

Assuming 40 cents (low), you saved $4.37 on one charge assuming a 20% discount. So that would be 3 charges.

If you own an F-150 Lightning also, it would be 2 charges.

And if the price is say 50 cents, it 2.4 charges and 1.65 charges.

In short, if it's a trip of more than 1 days, it's a no-brainer. If it's only 1 day but 3 charges, it's probably a no-brainer.

Yes, I received mine about 3 weeks ago, but I was recently notified that these adapters could be problematic. Ford stated that a replacement adapter will be sent out soon

They are businesses and they need profit. Super chargers are for long range road trip , not for daily use unless you have no home charger . If you only have EV in the house and you hit the road trip, you have no other option . Also home charger is for slow speed charging

Just realized that my adapter, originally promised in June, has not yet arrived. Where to check on that?

my NACS arrived a couple days ago.... haven't tried it out yet.

I take long road trips only a few times a year, so I don't have any membership, and have allowed my "connected services" to lapse since I don't want to pay for a subscription to stuff I literally never use.

If I want to just pay as I go with the very occasional L3 charge at various chargers on various networks (now including Tesla), I can just use a credit card at the machine, or do I need to load the tesla charge app into my phone and set up an account there as well as all the others I have used last trip ?

I use Tesla as a guest without membership. Evgo and others I have used except tap to pay. Paying in this fashion works and is best for limited usage.
