Apple won’t allow the car to know what type of destination is selected (e.g. a charger) for privacy reasons. So Ford can’t do anything. Complain to Apple so they allow POI type to be shared with the vehicle for chargers.

Well, that makes sense. I know this is far more complicated than it sounds, considering there are multiple companies involved... but couldn't Ford let Apple/Google decide when to pre-condition? Could even have a notification on the car, "Allow the battery to be pre-conditioned for charging? Yes - No".

Something Ford has full control of would be to have a pre-condition button available for the driver. I know there are probably reasons this isn't currently done, but I would like it.

Well I definitely think the car should decide when to start preconditioning and not the phone, since each EV is different and needs to start heating a different distance from the charger.

But yes, Ford could add a precondition for DC charge button we can press at any time.

Tried using this last weekend on a short trip to Chicago from Ann Arbor.

EV chargers were added, and the location was about right, but the charger chosen was only 62 KW. When I tried to replace this, Google Maps decided to add two chargers. I was unable to get the app to search for a charger near where I wanted in that dialog. I swapped to ABRP, and charged at the EA in the same parking lot as a Tesla site.

I have since determined I could have just had Google Maps nav to the desired charger.

So I didn't wait for the OTA updates. I bought the tools and with help from a bunch of great people here on macheforum was able to update my car to get BC 1.3 and this Android Auto and Google Maps EV integration update among other things. So glad I did that!

Was able to find it after some searching and figured I would put it here for others since it's sort of buried.

Click on search in Google Maps on Android Auto, NOT on your phone. Go to categories on the left, then charging stations. In the top left of that menu will be an icon of 3 sliders, select that. In that menu select the option below the text "compatible plugs." There will be a toggle for NACS adapter, which will enable navigating to compatible superchargers along navigation routes. If you don't have this option toggled, if you try to manually navigate to a supercharger it will warn you that your car is not compatible.

Even though I updated my car a couple of weeks ago and had selected the compatible plugs in Google Maps just on my phone, I didn't realize that Google Maps in Android Auto pays no attention to that! I used your instructions and found that indeed Google Maps via Android Auto did not have the NACS adapter selected. I am so glad I came back and re-read this thread before I ventured on a longer trip that requires these feature.

There used to be a setting in route options where you could "prefer efficient routes" and that seems to have gone away with this new integration. It was coupled with a setting in Google Maps where you could tell it what type of engine you have in your car. That all seems to be missing now with this update.

I had my first real use of this new feature on a ~500 mile round trip for Thanksgiving and it worked really well.

It was in the ~80F range on the trip out and seemed to be dead on for arrival battery SoC estimates but the trip back was in the ~40F range and the arrival battery SoC were not accurate. It was dropping about 4% per 30 minutes as I drove. I wish it could take temperature into account.

This is a very nice and helpful feature. Thanks Ford for making this happen.

With the NACS support and Android Auto Google Maps EV integration, the car now feels ready for a wider audience rather than us enthusiasts.

So your response implies that you would have tested both (ideally) and the Apple
Map app gives a more precise margin of battery usage. As I’ve seen the considerable investment of Apple’s R&D, maybe I’m not surprised

Yup, I tested both. Not sure on the accuracy part though. Seems comparable to me. Both usually a percentage or two off on the drives between 30min-1hour. Pretty precise for drives under 30 min, although I haven’t paid much attention to those shorter drives.

Just got an email talking about "winter weather tips" and "google maps EV routing". Seeing that those who have a 21 Mach-e don't have these updates yet, is there a condensed version of that I need to do/buy to get the google maps update so I can pre-condition the car for DC fast charging? Thanks in advance.

Google maps on android auto is showing chargers, but only slow LVL2 chargers and not LV3. Is there a way I can change this? I can set the filters on my phone, but when it shows on the car screen it only shows lvl2.

I have an older phone and car (galaxy note 10 and '21 CA Rt 1)

I have switched over to AndroidAuto exclusively for the last few months... seems to work better than the "Native" Sync for maps, text, and phone interfaces. It's a little different interface, but makes it easier to listen/review/reply to texts while driving which is nice.

I have not been the one that "added" a trap location, but I have had AA notify me of speed traps, stalled vehicles, etc. I am still learning the interface, and don't like to take my eyes off the road long enough to explore what all this icons are while moving.....

Its just says slow or fast , Once you added your vehicle that is enough for displaying chargers

Yes, although I think it just says "Police" now (for both Waze and AA...I think I read Google was switching the wording).
