With daylight waning and the recent seasonal clock change, I now drive home from work in the dark. Over the past several days, I've experienced a few quirks with my MME that I haven't noticed before.

The most annoying, but admittedly the least problematic, is that my ambient light setting keeps resetting. I typically drive in Engage Mode with the blue ambient light. A few times now, I've noticed that the lighting has changed to purple. When I check the auto setting, it's turned off.

The second quirk that's grabbed my attention is that my passenger side BLIS light seemingly turns on randomly at times, even when I'm on two lane back road with no one on my side.

And the third, which could potentially be dangerous if I were in an unfamiliar place, is that the speed limit icon on the IPC is showing wildly incorrect speed limits. For instance, once I was on a 35 mph posted road and the icon showed a 5 mph limit. On another road that's posted at 45 mph, the IPC showed the speed limit as 60 mph! Is this because the camera can't recognize speed limit signs in the dark as accurately?

Anyway, none of these glitches are devastating, but frustrating nonetheless. Btw, I'm on update 10.1.0 if anyone's wondering.

The second one is likely due to bushes or something on the side of the road.

That's kind of what I figured, but I find it odd that I've never seen it happen in any of the several other vehicles that I've driven with blind spot monitoring.

Are you using profiles? Maybe the lighting is resetting because of the profiles? I would set everything how you like then assign it to profile 1. See if that stops the lighting issues.

I've had issues with the speed limit sign recognition, but only with the wrong speed due to covered signs a couple times (a bush made a 35 into an 85 in the eyes of the car); most wrong speeds are reading the wrong sign. I like the speed sign recognition and can deal with the issues but I have it off because of the overly conservative curve speed reduction that is tied to the same setting.

Most of us who’ve had these cars for 3+ years have turned off the speed sign recognition in the cruise control settings because of this very reason.
“Most” might be a little too much.
I have only had mine for 2.5 years and I haven’t had any issues with it misreading the signs. Maybe once, it thought it was 50 while it was actually 60. It started to slow down and press the pedal a second or two later.

Yes, I have a profile and so does my wife, but she barely ever drives it.

I've never noticed the car read a sign wrong until recently, driving in the dark.

I should have said “most who have made comments about it.”

Have you tried cleaning the sensors/camera? My wife's old car would do some crazy stuff if the sensors weren't clean enough.

Mine has trouble reading the LED variable speed limit signs at night. It once read a 65 sign as 85. Whoops. Other than that, it has been ok with reading signs. It's not super dark yet on my commute, but I've definitely done a decent amount of after dark driving lately and I haven't noticed any weirdness.

You must not have school zone speed limit signs or construction zone signs where you live.

No way for the car to understand a 20 mph school zone or 50 mph construction zone “when flashing” sign.

For the OP, the BLIS indicator could just be a dirty sensor. How clean is your car?

Hi there! Will you send us a message with your VIN and your local Ford dealer? I can look into things on my end.

I generally keep my car clean. Either hand wash or use a touch-less auto wash once a week.

I figured that to be the case. Sounds similar to how most, if not all, GPS devices and apps have the speed limits baked in.

That begs the question - if the car knows the posted speed limit based on GPS, does the camera override that database when it "sees" what is perceived as a different speed? If that's true, then I suppose it makes sense for it to do that in situations like work zones where the posted speed limit may be temporary lowered.

Yes.

I have a road outside our development that is 55 unposted. It shows as 35. I contacted HERE, the company that supplies the data, and provided them with proof that it's 55. Over 6 months later it changed to 55 on my screen. 6 months later it was back to 35, they've clearly ignored the modification.

I have had only a few misread signs in a year. The only bad one was on a 35mph boulevard when it wanted to accelerate to 60. I caught it almost immediately, but still think a chime should sound with any speed change over 10mph.
