I still have a 21 however I have had two different cars. A 2021 premium awd ex manufactured February 2021 I picked up in March 2021 and my current car a GTPE manufactured October 21 I have had since September 23
Just bought the extended warranty and will likely keep this car until the next Gen batteries are out
21 Premium EX here. It was a demo unit with 1300 miles - now has 31K trouble free miles. Yea, there is the occasional software hangup or glitch, but it's always been reliable. I did get the 100 k 8 year warranty. All in all, satisfied and this car is going to be around for a long time!
‘21 here w/ 62k on the dash. TL;DR: Like the car, won‘t be sticking with Ford when the time comes.
The software remains buggy: Things like doors requires two button pushes to open, music not turning off immediately when the door opens, continue to plague the overall experience.
The battery and range anxiety are not a thing. I have a plug-in 240v wall charger and it’s perfect.
As someone with a family and the usual cargo they come with, the cabin itself is cramped and I wouldn’t recommend to anyone with multiple car seats or that regularly need more trunk space. As a driver, the car is too stiff and gets uncomfortable to be in after two hours or so.
I like the price I paid for it, love the zippiness on side roads, and enjoy the relative silence of an EV vs. an ICE. All told, I wouldn’t go with Ford again, if only for build and style issues, but I’m all-in on EVs.
My husband (@Carsinmyblood) and I ordered our Mach-Es in May of 2021. I got a cancellation in early June of ‘21 and he got one around September’21. We both love the cars. Mine was totaled in late June of ‘23 and I liked it so much that Silver Pony was replaced with Aldieb, another Job 1 ‘21.
Like many of the OG ‘21 owners my husband rarely visits here, but I get on a few times a week. I let him know if anything important is going on, such as signing up for the adapter.
I still have my First Edition ... reserved in 2019 and delivered the first week of February 2021.
I did buy a '23 GT PE and considered trading in the '21 but I really DO like that car and the dealer wouldn't give me a reasonable price ... so now we are a 2 EV house and no longer own an ICE car.
I too ordered inn 2019, received the car on March 5, of 2021. have just shy of 37,000 miles, first edition, grabber blue, still love it but it has been trying at times with fixes that need eo be done. had a long correction period for front camera faults and now they are back. I dread starting the dealershio process again to fix, will probably take 10 more trips until it finally get corrected.
Jan '21 delivered FE. Many software/firmware issues, months spent in the shop, 2 windshields, but overall fun to drive and even not too bad on long road reports given improvements in west coast charging infrastructure.
I visit this site in hopeless anticipation of Ford living up to their promise of BC 1.3, but otherwise content no longer that relevant to me.
Mach-e got me to stop my embargo in buying Ford products due to previous bad experiences, but fraught ownership experience with MME means this is the last Ford I'll buy.
We've more recently also bought a '22 Kia and '23 Bolt EUV and have experienced zero problems with those & now have three EVSE's in our garage. We stopped buying fossil vehicles back in '17 when we bought our first Bolt EV, and as the saying goes, "We're not going back".
Owner since 2021. Found a First Edition sitting on a lot in STL in April of 21 after having ordered a different version in January of 21. It was actually a post on here that mentioned there were a few sitting on lots across the US. Cancelled my order and went to pick it up (probably paid way more than what others paid).
Currently have about 66,000 miles on it and I still enjoy driving it. Little frustrated about the lack of updates, especially since the pre-heating is a pretty critical feature for proper charging.
2021 Select, RWD, STD battery, 49k miles, Space White, took delivery Feb 4, 2021, only 4 payments left! Love the car (my 4th EV) and would definitely by another one if this one got totaled.
I still lurk on the forum to see what’s coming down the pipe, but given the glacial pace of software releases and complete absence of official communications that’s an exercise in frustration I’m trying to avoid.
Edit: No, actually, @Gimme_my_MME is the real reason I stick around. Their perfect gif selection and oddly specific knowledge will always keep me coming back for more. And they blessed us as I was writing this stream of consciousness mess… Never leave us, @Gimme_my_MME!
I’m generally very satisfied with my 21 job 1. The major issues (known and disclosed ones, anyway) have been handled at no cost by various Ford dealers. They’re all varying degrees of inept, so I’ve tried to find a better one to no avail. Whatever, the work gets done, albeit with some avoidable frustration and miscommunication.
It’s frustrating to see new software with improved stability, functionality, and features come out on newer builds only to trickle out at a painfully slow pace to my car. But aside from CarPlay connectivity problems and some glaring omissions to the stock UI (fast-charging info on the vehicle UI) everything is good and works. I got what I paid for… sort of… don’t get me started on BlueCruise…
Will I be trading it in for something better soon? No. Nothing really checks enough boxes to tempt me now. Maybe the R2/R3 if they use an 800V battery. I’ve pointed a few friends to Hyundai/Kia instead of Ford, and while I think it’s probably a better experience it feels like too much of a lateral move.
Will I buy another Ford? Probably not. This is obviously a transitional product for them, and while I understand that improvements are being made over the product’s lifespan Ford hasn’t displayed much dedication to keeping this generation at parity, let alone long term support.
But these all feel like minor early adopter complaints based on overly optimistic speculation from Ford at launch. The 21 is fine, I’m mostly happy and it’s still probably the best car I’ve owned.
Premium AWD here, Jan 2021 build. Zero issues other than the recalls. Only 19k miles but the car will be a long term keeper unless battery tech improves dramatically. I still pickup an occassional tidbit in spite of the newbie dumb stuff.
It almost feels like an anniversary post — yesterday marked 3 years since I got mine.
Here are a few key facts:
2021 Premium AWD ER Rapid Red
Job 2, born on Jul 21st, went home on Nov 5th
Software 6.14.0, BlueCruise 1.0
Last updated on May 31st, 2024 (!)
Approx. 26,5 K miles
HVBJB replaced once
I still love the car, but I'm getting more and more frustrated by the lack of updates and clarity about Ford's plans for this particular production year.
I reserved my MY 21 Job 1 Infinite Blue (the BEST Blue!) Premium Extended Range AWD a week after the November 2019 webcast, and picked it up on a dark and stormy night! (March 31, 2021). I’ll likely (not definite yet) replace it with a MY26 vehicle (my hope was that MY26 would be the “new” one, but that doesn’t seem to be the case now ?). It’s had its share of “first year” growing issues, but nothing at all serious. I love the vehicle and can’t imagine ever going back to an ICE vehicle.
