I think Tesla is being too alarmist here. Nobody is going to use an adapter 10,000 cycles. And the Mach-E never draws more than 450 amps. So it will never overheat.

EDIT: The more I read about this, the more it seems like Tesla is just being a bully by sending a cease and desist letter, and forcing them to recall the V1 adapter for an unrealistic use case. I don’t know of any EVs that draw 500 amps for a whole hour.
Bad behavior from Tesla. Who'da'thunk? ?

agree on the overcautious side and it's a bit ironic that tesla referred it to NHTSA for an official recall process.
Good point!

Lots of conjecture.
I know there's no alternative but to try to fill in the blanks. Human nature.

But nobody at this point knows the whole story. But the good news is the consumer, that's us, are being given a solution to whatever the issue really is.

If they are asking for an order number, that's not going to be possible for me.. I purchased mine 6 months ago and the paperwork is long gone.
I created an account and my purchases populated.

The email tells us exactly what the issue is.

Why We're Offering This Exchange

We received feedback from Tesla suggesting alleged concerns regarding the locking mechanism and surface temperature. We provided Tesla with multiple internal and external testings and reports, but a mutual agreement could not be reached. No safety event has been reported whatsoever.

Tesla feels it’s unsafe, A2Z didn’t agree…safety recall got issued.

I'm going to be honest, this sounds like Tesla trying to bully A2Z a bit, a much smaller company that actually saved my biscuits being able to get me an adapter for a cross-country move LONG before my adapter from Ford came. There's no way I'm doing even 1,000 cycles let alone 10,000 on this thing, and I've never had to charge for a full hour (particularly not anywhere near the throughput they are concerned about). The adapter is a temporary stopgap until NACS comes installed by default which won't be long.

If it saves A2Z a few bucks to not have to junk my adapter and send me a new one, I'm just going to keep what I've got and take the "risk," since I've got the Ford/Tesla version now anyway if I actually get concerned.

Retired. I'd say it was a mid life crisis, but not many people live to 140.

Looked up my order number and applied as soon as I saw Tom’s video yesterday.

Haven't had the first problem and I am a very light user.

But I just want the new latch mechanism.

Not holding my breath. They are likely to be overwhelmed.

Many more of you probably just got the same email (and might even beat met to posting as I type this).

Looks like A2Z is recalling the V1 CCS to NACS adapters with an exchange program.

The YouTube video wins the prize for being the longest winded one ever. Five minutes would have been enough

There's more to it too, with some instructions and eligibility info, but that's the main detail. It eventually points to here: https://a2zevshop.com/apps/vep

If it’s anything like Apple when you sell back an old phone or watch, the label on the box they ship you has the top part to you on a perforated page that you tear off to expose the return label beneath it. So, just put yours in the box, tear off the label to you and take it to UPS/FedEx. Easy peasy.
IF it works that way.

I’ve been on the other side of product recalls with a few companies I worked for and feel the PIA A2Z must be experiencing. Not to mention serious expense. Hoping this doesn’t bury them since they were great about shipping me my (now recalled) adapter ahead of when they said and also quickly answered my e-mail question.
