I remember seeing some video interviews where it was said that the Mach-E will feature self-presenting doors (automatically unlocks and opens itself when you approach). Has anyone seen this confirmed lately or maybe even seen a video of it in action?

Begs the question whether this something that most of us will even want? I can see it being cool and convenient when you're going to drive, but could also be annoying if you're just walking past or close to the car without intending to get in.

I recall your presence sets it ready to be unlocked but nothing happens until you press one of the little open door/hatch buttons.

I thought they said the drivers door will open a little so all you need to do is use the pint or should to open rest of the way. But that could be a setting you can turn on and off

That's exactly what the doors do -- after you press the button.

I like how this functions. Was worried it would actually open itself which is not only a safety issue for people like me with little kids but also might slam into other cars if parked tightly. This makes much more sense than what I imagined.

I think the Mach-e is more practical than the standard pull out door handles of most cars, like my C-max...at least with full hands. Very hard to pull the C-max handle with just a pinky.

Yes I don't like how on the Model X it not only auto opens a small gap when approach the door but also then fully opens automatically once you step around the door. I've seen it actually hit another parked car despite having sensors that is supposed to prevent it.

After looking at the videos of the Mach-E's self presenting doors in action, I think it's a good mix of auto+manual action.

I didn't know the Model X doors fully open when you step around. I definitely don't trust sensors to prevent hitting another (little) person or another parked car. Also I feel like opening a gap could mean fingers get caught in there on accident.

I thought that it was a bad idea to open a small gap because of getting fingers pinched, also. However, a few days ago I saw a short video that illustrates how the little plunger that pushes the door open a few inches stays extended until you open the door a foot or so - preventing fingers from getting smashed

I hope the door extenders have a manual override in case they don't retract.

Great to hear. Would you happen to have the video?

I wonder if that little mechanism will be strong enough to break through ice on cold days, looks pretty solid
