Personally will not make a difference to me. Would I like yes! I purchased my GT not knowing I would get it in 22 and the credit will not affect my decision in the future. I do; however, understand why it would affect others in their decision making.

Really glad I ended up getting our Lightning last month! I was afraid something like this may happen.
what difference would that have made had you bought it?

If I waited until next year, there is a good chance I wouldn't have gotten the $7,500 credit.

Not really a big deal, you will see the price drop by the same amount. The current federal credit was just the government funding electric vehicles through your paycheck and the price had the refund built in. My 23 didn’t qualify because of the battery, but I got that and more off the price .

Canada still has the federal rebate. Topped by some provinces. The rebate program from the latter is reducing however. It is a matter of time.

I doubt it. If the net long-term profitability of most EVs across the entire US industry is reduced by $7,500 per car, normal market forces will increase prices across the entire industry.

Ford's strategy is said to involve cutting costs to eliminate the huge losses they've incurred in their EV line in recent years. That already was going to be extraordinarily difficult. It may soon get even more difficult, by about $7,500 per vehicle.

I think that's short sighted by Elon. Both the 3 and the Y qualify for the full boat, the Mach E doesn't qualify for any of it, currently. Given that the Mach E is handicapped because of the credit, people are still choosing it over a Tesla, that value proposition may flip back to Detroit driving further sales vs the Y.

If the credit were to go away, here's how a Model Y would stack up compared to the 2025 Mach-E I ordered about three weeks ago ...
  • Model Y Long-Range Rear-Wheel Drive: $44,990
  • Mach-E Premium w/ Extended Range Battery: $45,345 (+$355)
    • Base price: $39,995
    • Extended range battery: $3,750
    • Panoramic fixed-glass roof: $1,600
Paint: I want a red car. Tesla wants $2,000; Ford wants $995 (-$1,005).
Charge cord: Tesla wants $250; Ford wants $600 (+$350).
Carpet: I opted for the all-weather mats, which provides all-weather mats for all seats and cargo area. Tesla wants $415; Ford wants $495 (+$80).
Premium Connectivity: I opted for the one-time payment of $745, which is a guarantee of seven years minimum. Tesla's premium connectivity for that time horizon is $693. I pay $745 (+$52).

The only thing I do not think I can give a fair comparison for is Autopilot vs. BlueCruise. Autopilot is free; one-time payment of BlueCruise, good for minimum seven years, is $2,495.

Overall, Ford is not that far off!

If you want an Autopilot (mostly) equivalent you don’t need BlueCruise, the base lance centering with adaptive cruise does most of what free Autopilot does. It won’t do lane changes as far as I know which I believe AutoPilot will. But BlueCruise you are paying for the hands free, which I believe you can only get equivalent from Tesla by buying FSD.

Now FSD can conceivably do more than BC, especially since it doesn’t just work on highways. I am just talking the hands free portion.

I just mention it because I still see people confused on BlueCruise vs Adaptive Cruise with Lane Centering. BC is just the hands free part and lane changes.
