This is dealership service department 101 for any car brand.
Step 1 "not covered under warranty" but here is the price for us to do it.
Step 2 for the unscrupulous - the slow roll, you can get it fixed right away if you pay us cash, but gee willikers the manufacturer is making us stand on our heads and chug a beer before we can submit this obvious warranty work.
Step 3 "Warranty Work Submitted" please wait a few weeks to months for parts, we swear we're trying as hard as we can.

The op could be living in step 2, I await to see the delay for parts in step 3.

I asked my dealer to deal with the A pillar noise months ago...still waiting for those parts to come in...and that callback....they are sure trying real hard to get them and that's 100% reimbursed by ford.

it's always possible ford is incompetent they might be senile after 100 years as a car company.

The only way I curb my cynicism is if the OP says they have not offered them an invoice to fix it for a cash price, @Hubert
This is dealership service department 101 *for scummy dealerships.

Find a dealer that will treat you well - they do exist. I had a lifter failure on my 7.3L earlier this year and my dealer took great care of me, all under warranty. I called the service advisor on a Friday, dropped it off that same day, and the new engine was in the truck and it was ready to go the next Thursday. All without an inkling of trying to push it to customer pay.

Yes, some dealers will push certain repairs to customer pay to make more money for both the tech and the service department. But this situation does not smell like that. Not every dealership is out to get you.

this may not be helpful but when my 2121 warranty expired I stated I was purchasing an extended warranty and suggested to others it seems like a good value

Extended warranties do not provide any additional coverage for the EV system components.

No matter the resolution, this is run around nonsense, and at best irresponsible, etc.
And not surprising -ask the scores and scores of owners in this forum and the many other owners not participating in this forum

They honestly have not. I had to pull a few teeth for them to tell me how much. I also initially asked them to just order the motor and start working on it as I'm going to get it fixed regardless. The question is whether Ford will decide to cover it later, or they would not, I would pay for it then I'd have to litigate it. The service mgr. told me he won't even order it until he hears a conclusion from Ford. I'm currently down $600 in a rental with no end in sight....If Ford covers it, they tell me they expect to reimburse for the rental too.

Today I forwarded the comments from
@AHop and @eponey in the forum to my service mgr. (Thanks for the insightful details).
He looked into it and agreed, but he says if he tried to put in a different part number than what pops up for my VIN they will deny it so he says he has to figure out what he needs to do. He said tomorrow he was going to talk to his parts dept. in greater detail.
After I hung up with him, I requested he send me an the repair estimate he sent Ford including all itemized part numbers and components.
Tomorrow I'm going to attempt to go to another dealer and have a chat with their parts dept. to see what pops up for warranty and get some advise. I'm also going to try and call Ford warranty parts(or Ford parts...I forget). Let's see if I get someone with them...thanks for all your helpful comments.

If they aren't trying to get money from you and even offering to cover the rental they might be a keeper but issues around processing this repair are concerning.

Dave, what items do you mean by "EV system components". My Ford PremiumCare EV Extended Service Plan looks like it covers quite a few EV components except the battery which already has an 8yr, 100K warranty. Drive motors, oil pumps, PCM and BECM modules, battery charger, on-board battery charging cables, voltage converter assembly, front and rear inverter system controllers, are some of the items mentioned in the extended warranty that are covered.

I was under the impression that components covered by the 8/100K EV system warranty are not covered by extended warranties. I’m happy to be corrected on that.

Yeah it wouldn’t make sense to have “double coverage.”

“Who” covers things determines “who” pays for things.

I honestly don’t like that the extended warranty language mentions the “drive motors” by name while the factory warranty doesn’t.

“eDrive components” definitely needs some explanation. Because if it isn’t the motors, what is it?

But let’s just say for arguments sake that the motors are strangely not a part of the eDrive. They DEFINITELY would be part of the powertrain.

So either way? Covered by Ford in this case.

Ford needs to figure this out quickly. This can’t be the first time a motor has failed after 36k miles.

Folks, the service mgr came back today and was able to reconcile the dilemma. He said Ford will cover the full repair and the rental and that Ford would fix the parts site so this doesn't happen again..... Oh well, it has to happen to someone initially I guess. FYI, the cost of the Motor is about $3,400, $2,000 for labor, and about $75 in bolts and $300 in shop supplies.... About $6k including tax.

Thank you all for your help and support.

I will note "Almost Solved" in the title and post here is there are any interesting surprises or developments.
