My '21 Iconic Silver GTPE was one of the best cars I've ever owned. I'm 70, have had just over 40 vehicles and driven well over 1M miles. My Ford options lease was up this month and I called Ford and told them wanted to keep the car and continue with the payments until paid off, another 2.5 years. Two weeks later Docusigned the contract and all was set.

Last month a friend of mine in AZ bought a '24 GT and got $8K in incentives/rebates which brought the price of his no options GT down to just under $50K. We all know of some changes/improvements they've made on the '24 Mach-E's like no 5 second limit, new rear motor, 20% faster charging, slightly better range, performance boost option, new headlight design, new frunk tub design, drivers seat 8 way instead of 6 way power, BlueCruise 1.3, etc. My issue is I really like Iconic Silver and the '24's are not available in that color (neither are next years '25's). So I had dropped the idea of upgrading. With the holidays coming, I started seeing more rebates this month and Ford offering larger rebates than last month for leasing a new Mach-E.

I like lighter colors on my DD and usually get white or silver. I didn't want Space White because it's a metallic and I like solid whites. The only other color was Glacier Gray. Unfortunately Glacier Gray is an extra cost and an expensive one at $1K. Don't see what's so special about it that they charge that much but whatever. Definitely did not want the glass roof. Didn't want the fancy GT wheels as I have my own custom ones or any of the other options.

I don't run a front license plate on any car that doesn't have a dedicated spot for it on the front bumper as it ruins the look of the front end. The Mach-E is one of those cars and here in CA most dealers install the front license plate bracket on the car as soon as it comes off the truck since a front plate is required. Yes I know you can use a vinyl front license plate sticker here in CA but I am not into those either. I usually always special order my cars and my dealer knows not to put the front bracket on the car otherwise they can keep the car and order another. Looking for a '24 GT in Glacier Gray with no options and no front license plate bracket installed at the end of the year in CA is not easy. Spent a few days looking in AZ as they don't have the front license plate requirement. The dealer there I really like, Earnhardt Ford, had 60+ Mach-E's but not my exact one. By the way, if anyone in that area wants a good deal, ask for Art Manni. He's a great guy, ex race car driver and was just granted his order for a GTD. San Tan Ford had 150+ Mach-E's and one that would fit the bill but they wanted $3K of extra dealer crap they added plus didn't have as many rebates. That was a no go.

Decided to start looking for my exact car in CA without a front bracket. There was only one car within 500 miles of me that would fit the bill and it was at The Ford Store in Morgan Hill. Night before last at 6pm, I called to talk to a sales person. I was handed over to Jordan Byler and I asked him if Mach-E Stock #457775 had a front plate bracket on it. He immediately said he doubted it because they don't normally install them on the Mach-E or any car that does not have a spot for it. Right away I liked this dealer. He said he would go out and check for sure. 5 minutes later called me back and gave me the good news, no bracket.

A little bit about The Ford Store in Morgan Hill. I know several close friends that have purchased cars there and they NEVER add an ADM on any cars. They never did on any Mach-E's even when they were first out, they don't on Raptors, Lightnings, etc. They also never add any dealer items like paint protection, Lojack, etc. There is no negotiating with them. Every car on the lot has the window sticker on it and you pay exactly the MSRP or less depending on if they are having a sale or rebates. Salesmen DO NOT make commission. They get paid the same whether it's a base Maverick or an F450 SuperDuty Platinum.

The window sticker on the car was $58,980. Base price for a '24 GT is $54,995. As a side note, the '24 GT's up until July were $53,995. After July they went up $1K and mine was built last month in October. Two options, Glacier Gray paint $995 and GT Performance Upgrade (would have bought this anyway) $995. Destination and Delivery $1,995. So those two options plus D&D total $58,980. I told Jordan I would like to either finance or lease the car based on which would give the best rebates. He said at this time, Ford is giving bigger rebates on leasing. He told me he would get back with a price in 10 min. He calls me back with a price of $43,980. I asked him if he had the proper car because that was $15,000 off of the sticker. He said yes. I said sold. Spent the next few minutes texting him my insurance, license and credit info. 30 minutes later I had an email to Docusign a contract (Ford lease). Rebates breakdown: $10K for Ford leasing, $2K dealer rebate (buying from stock), $2K holiday rebate, $1K for not accepting the free ford EV home charger they are offering. The $15K was my downpayment.

Now, about my trade in.... Everyone knows our cars are worth much less compared to what we bought them for and what they should be worth. I understand this but still willing to trade it in for an updated model at a very good deal. I told Jordan wanted to trade in my car and asked what he would give me. As a reference, my friend in AZ that traded in his '21 Premium with 48K miles got $21K for his. San Tan Ford wanted to give me much less for my car which is a GT with less miles when I was talking to them. Jordan asked for my VIN and some photos of my car. He came back with a price of $22,500 and I said fine but I still owed $27,300. He said not a problem and could just roll that $4800 into the new lease. Since the rebates totaled so much, I didn't put any money down. So yesterday, drove down to Morgan Hill (3 hours away), met up with Jordan and we did a walk around my new car. I needed to change out my wheels/tires for the ones on the new car so the service department swapped them out. That took about 45 minute during which time met up with Lindsey the finance manager and signed papers. When that was done, got in the '21 and did a factory reset on Sync to wipe out my data, then to my new car and set up FordPass and PAAK. Jordan (sales), Ray (service) and Lindsey (finance) were all awesome to deal with. Super friendly, honest and down to earth people. Can't say enough good things about The Ford Store in Morgan Hill.

Ok, on to the little changes I've noticed that Ford doesn't mention and I am sure there are more. Some may have changed before the '24 model year and some changed July '24 on (Job 2).

1. Rear cargo hold down rings are plastic instead of metal
2. Driver/passenger kick plates no longer have an aluminum "Mustang/GT" plaque
3. Dual USB-C ports at the console rear instead of one USB-C and USB-A
4. Front Driver/Passenger doors no longer have a lock actuator (presenter)
5. Removed kick to open liftgate feature
6. Eliminated the inside illuminated open/close button on the liftgate panel
7. Rear speaker grills no longer have a B&O emblem
8. Removed the windshield wiper defrosters
9. Removed hood bump stops
10. Removed parking assist feature
11. Ceiling grab handles no longer damped, when released, they snap up quickly
12. Front camera through windshield has a white casing instead of black
13. High beams don't seem to be as bright as the ones in the '21 (low beams the same)
14. Front headrests on premium no longer tilt forward/backward
15. No more sound insulation padding behind door panels
16. Removed front grille camera washer
17. Cargo cover has slightly thicker support posts, more difficult to attach and remove
18. Shark fin antenna on roof no longer on a separate metal area by itself
19. Wireless charger is a separate metal plate within the plastic console bottom
20. Front proximity sensor beep has a higher pitch tone than rear proximity sensor beep
21. Now comes with a full printed owners manual
22. Start/Stop button no longer has a flashing green LED
23. Front side windows are no longer acoustic (laminated) after July '24
24. Frunk tub is lighter, has half the screws securing it and they‘re exposed
25.There are three things about the audio system that I've noticed
(a) The overall volume is at least 2db louder for any given volume control setting
(b) Dash tweeters sound more harsh in their lower frequency range
(c) The OEM 6x9 woofer bass frequencies sound deeper but it has an mis match of time alignment. It hits after the door speakers so a single kick drum almost sounds like two kick drums hit.
After removing the rear quarter panel to access wires I needed to install my aftermarket sub, I noticed the B&O amp is a different shape and it is also a larger than the previous one.

I took these at the dealer just before I left for home. I told them not prep the car at all. All stickers were left and all plastic inside on seats and floor. Car was dirty but I always prefer to clean it up myself when I get home. It was kind of difficult saying goodbye to my '21. ?

I saw that you mentioned that you "picked up" a Glacier Grey Mach-E in the 20" RTR thread.

I let it stand. Didn't pester you. Figured if you wanted to explain, you would.

Well, THAT explains!

Congratulations. I hope you enjoy it every bit as much as you appear to have enjoyed your 2021.

Oh, and old guys rule. ?

Congrats on the new 24 Mark! Just curious did you remove any of your suspension parts on the 21 before trading it in? I believe you had the Eibach sways and springs.

Old guys, schmold guys…. ??

Congrats on the Glacier Grey! I am currently looking for the same car in Grabber Blue. I found one a couple of hours from here, but unfamiliar with the dealer. Checking with your sales guy to see if he has one coming in since I would rather deal with a known quantity, but the one a couple of hours away sure is tempting. I am going to start pulling my front cargo rings, jump point, Chinese GT emblems, and a few other things. ??

I still owe a bit more on my 4 year Options plan than you did on your 3 year plan And my car is more bare-bones than your car was so I will probably have to roll a few thousand more into my financing. ?‍♂?

EDIT: Dumb question. Did you take advantage of the free Charge Station Pro or did you take the $1K in exchange? ??

Thanks Brian. Nope, left it all in the car. Only thing I took out was the JL sub and of course swapped my wheels and tires with the ones on the '24 GT. Left everything else inside and out.

I owed less than you probably because I put down a hefty down payment. I think it was $20K.

I have two Emporia EV charges, one on each side of the garage (inside) so no did not take advantage of their charge station and yes I took the $1K which was part of the $15K rebates.

7. Rear speaker grills no longer have a B&O emblem

11. Front camera through windshield has a white casing instead of black (very noticeable)
12. High beams are not quite as bright as the ones in the '21.
13. No more sound insulation behind door panels (I know because took them off to sound deaden doors)
14. Cargo cover has new hooks that make it extremely difficult to attach and remove, seriously
15. There are three things about the audio system that I noticed immediately
1) The overall volume is at least 2db louder for any given volume control setting
2) The dash tweeters are crossed over lower. They are a little harsh in their lower frequency range
3) Not sure how they did it with the same crappy 6x9 woofer but the bass frequencies are lower
The new B&O amp is completely different in shape and it is also larger than the previous one. From the sound of it, I think the EQ inside the amp was also tweaked

Leave you with one photo I took at the dealer just before I left for home.

I bought my Mach-E from Art at Earnhardt! Great guy. Went to San Tan beforehand and left with a bad taste. They definitely have a good selection, but poor pricing.

Best ever? Out of 50+? That is saying something.

Drive it in good health! (The new one, that is.)
Yes actually, my favorite car. I mean three years later I'm still excited to drive it down to the store two miles away or take a trip out of town. It's not the fastest car I have owned nor the most fun to drive. It certainly does not ride well or handle great, in fact there is not one particular area it excels in but overall it does everything decently well. I'm looking forward to the next version and hopefully in Iconic Silver. ?

Art is probably one of the best salespersons I've ever met. We talked about racing, Shelby's, EV's and all sorts of things. He is the only one that gets to drive the Ford GT (supercar) in the showroom once a month to keep it fresh. We've been texting photos and stories back and forth the last couple of weeks. I really wanted to buy my car from him. I should have when Joe bought his car as they had one at that time (beginning of October). I don't even want to talk about San Tan.

Congrats, Mark!! You really have me thinking now. My Options is up in January, that is such a good price, I’m tempted. I’m really concerned on the “cheapening” though. Especially the lack of sound deadening in doors and acoustic glass. I know you always add your own to the doors, but what are your thoughts on both for someone who leaves it stock? Think it’ll be noticeable, especially wind noise from windows which has been a problem already on MMEs?

Door actuators and kick to open tailgate (I know, I know, removed ages ago) also really sour me! Seems like just the seat adjustments, BC 1.3 (which I have some version of lol), and maybe sound system are the only true upgrades? Oh and 5 second limit (can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it!). Charging speed increase doesn’t do much for me.

Curious on suspension improvements at all?

Hey Neil, so this is one of the first times I can remember I bought a car off the lot. Like I have mentioned I always special order my cars and right as soon as the order banks open for the new model year. However I could not pass up the rebates and doubt you could get such a deal on a '25 unless it would be towards the end of next year. Who knows?

Most all of the "cheapening" does not really concern or affect me except the front side windows. Joe buys his '24 GT last month built in June and it has acoustic windows. I buy mine built last month and it does not. I ordered both windows this morning which won't be in for a couple of weeks since Ford does not have them in stock and they are coming directly from the supplier. They are very easy to install so won't be a problem there, however they are expensive at about $350 each. Not sure exactly how much they will quiet down the wind noise and exterior car and truck sounds but this car is a bit louder in that area than my '21 was. I would not concern yourself about the lack of acoustic padding behind the door panels. I don't think it does all that much and if you want, also easy to put some of that back in there.

I have only had the car for just over 24 hours and yesterday on the way home, I told some back roads instead of the highway since it was commute time. I needed to pass some big trucks a few times and really did not notice the car was any faster with the performance boost option which it already has but I did notice that it did not slow down after I reached 75-80. A couple of the times I pasted two cars at once and before I knew it I was at 95 so I certainly did not notice any 5 second limit which was nice. Before, I would be nervous passing since a few times during my pass the car would start to cut back on power.

I don't really care about charging speed either. I charge at home 98% of the time and only using solar power. When I'm out of town, I charge on the Supercharger network and that is fast enough for me.

So far, the suspension seems smoother than I remember it with my OEM setup on the '21 GTPE and just as smooth as with the Eibach lowering springs I had in that car. I am installing the Eibach sway bars this weekend as that is a must (my favorite mod for sure) but holding off on the springs for awhile even though I feel the car looks a little high. Guess I am just used to the look of the other one.

I am a bit younger than you and have owned only seven cars. The Mustang is my second favorite, after my '98 Lexus LS400. I suspect my criteria are not the same as yours. ;) I loved the Lexus, and drove it for 25 years. But the Mustang is growing on me!

Yes, Iconic Silver is nice, hope it makes a comeback.

I'm so happy for you Mark. What a steal of a deal! I've only ever heard great things about The Ford Store at Morgan Hill and I'm glad that tradition continues. If/when I go shopping again they'll definitely be very high on my list of places to go.

Now that you've had the car for a whole 24 hours, how do you like the Glacier Grey Metallic?
