Hi all,
I recently bought a MX+ to try and get more details about my 2023 MachE. I'm able to use the official OBDlink app to connect to the dongle, but for some reason Carscanner is unable to connect to the device. I've worked through the troubleshooting guide, and have the bluetooth connection set up correctly (as evidenced by the MX+ connecting just fine when I use a different app). Are there different settings I'm supposed to be using in carscanner to connect to the MX+?

From what I can tell, the official app may not have all the information that carscanner does...but that could also be incorrect.

I'd appreciate any experience people have getting carscanner up and running with the MX+.

If using an iPhone on latest OS there is a known issue. I was able to get around it by connecting to the device in bluetooth settings first and then opening the app to clicking connect.

Isn’t that how it’s supposed to work anyways? I’ve always connected that way ??.

From the Carscanner page: https://www.carscanner.info/bluetooth-troubleshooting/

Issue #4. Another program is occupying the communication channel with the adapter.
Solution: Disconnect and force quit another program. Sometimes this is not exactly a trivial task.
On iOS, you need to trigger a task switch and force close all other OBDII apps.
On Android this may not work. the program may leave behind a background service connected to the adapter, so it is better to use the shutdown methods that are in the program itself.
I have read about having to delete the OBDLink app from the phone to allow Carscanner to connect to the dongle. Give that a try and see if it helps.

I can give that a try, but I don't think thats the issue. I tried carscanner first (before I even had OBDLink installed) and it still failed. That failure was what led me to try the other app so I could verify the MX+ was actually working

Interesting, any details on this? FWIW I was connecting to the dongle first in bluetooth settings before attempting to connect in CarScanner.

I've been using Car Scanner every day for the past 3 weeks on a project I was working on and it works well with my iPhone 16 Pro running the latest iOS 18.3. I make sure the MX+ is connected to Bluetooth first then start Car Scanner. I do not have the OBDLink app installed. Twice I had Car Scanner not able to connect to the MX+ so went into Bluetooth settings on phone, disconnected MX+ then reconnected and Car Scanner connected.

I haven't tried the connect-disconnect-reconnect step, I could try it. Besides that, I think the only difference is that I'm on an iPhone 13, still on iOS 17.7.2

Yes if Car Scanner does not connect to the MX+ even though MX+ is connected, go to Bluetooth and disconnect then reconnect MX+. Then go to Car Scanner and QUIT the app then restart the app and it should connect to the MX+.
