BLUF: Engage the parking and keep the car unplugged to get OTAs more readily.

Excuse me if this is already widely known but I haven't seen it before. I just shared this on Reddit as well

I joined the club with a 2024 Premium AWD Ext this past December. I noticed quickly it wasn't as updated as the car I test drove. I called the OTA help line to try and get them pushed unsuccessfully. However, the individual I spoke to told me updates will push more successfully if certain conditions were met. She said specifically to make sure the parking brake was set, automatic updates were turned on, and the vehicle was left off the charger. I started engaging the parking brake every time I park the car. In the two weeks since that call I have received three updates.

I can't verify that's why, but I'd you aren't putting on the parking brake every time (because why would you, it's in park......) start and see what happens.

Cheers!

Fair enough. Anecdotally, it seemed to work, but could entirely be coincidental. Thought I'd share.

Same as Mach-Lee - I never set the parking brake, rarely park on an incline. OTA’s have flowed normally (usually in bursts a few months apart). Doesn’t hurt tho.

I didn't know that it can take updates while parked, I always had them while driving (the message popped up at the end of the trip)

There’s also the theory that you should change your update times every so often to get them flowing. I think the rain dance theory is more fun.

They told me I could not use EA app, or any other charging app for that matter, and had to use Plug and Charge

Does the parking brake not automatically engage when you switch it to P and turn it off? I swear I must’ve missed pulling the little P lever up once or twice but the brake is always engaged.

It brakes in park but it is not the "parking brake". There is an internal parking brake inside the motor. I think that is what is used when you put the car in park. I think the parking brake lever uses a more traditional electronically actuated parking brake.

Either way I doubt your car is going anywhere.

The parking pawl in the transaxle engages when the car is switched into Park. The parking brake is applied separately, either by automatic command from the car or by using the switch. There are some requisites that I forget right now for the automatic command by the car. I believe one of them is road slope. I always hit the switch to set the brake. ??

Thank you! I watched the video on the transaxle and hear him saw parking "paw". I thought, well I can imagine a little puppy arm reaching out and grabbing hold, but I feel like that's not right.

I have so much to learn about EV makeup. I learned how to wrench on my ICE vehicles. This thing is completely new to me between the tires.

A lot is similar to other current Ford products. Some is different (like the drivetrain and fuel system). Wrenching on the MME is mostly the same other than power and fuel. ??
