Hey yall, with the cold snap that is hitting or about to hit a lot of the country, I'm curious if there is anything to be concerned about with the vehicle. For example, the next three days for me won't be getting over 10deg F. Now, we don't plan to be doing any road trips in that time and can switch to our ICE vehicle fortunately but wondering if there is any concern with just letting the car sit in those times (I'd have to assume not but these temps are abnormal).

Would it be better to let the car sit unused for that time or actually drive it around and get it moving?

Does that keep the battery warm? I was under the impression this only kicks in when preconditioning the battery for a set departure time.
This is explained in the manual.

When you're not using the vehicle, it should be plugged in to 240v all the time. That way, when it needs to warm the battery it can.

Will it be harmed just sitting outside unused? No.

I had a 21, (now have a 24). When I had the first MME, if the temp was below freezing, a message would appear advising me to plug the car in when I parked. It stopped doing that at some point.

Good to know. Thanks yall. I haven't seen that message asking to keep it plugged in yet, even though it has been decently cold here and there. We have a charging schedule set up through our Chargepoint Level 2 to match our electricity providers schedule (we do overnight charging almost exclusively since it is offpeak pricing). Probably will just override the schedule for the next couple days. (y)

I think that plug in message was removed at some point, don't know why. With Ford, you never know.

I wouldn't do that. The car is fine if it doesn't warm the battery. Unless your peak cost is close to off-peak, let it warm, if it wants to, during off-peak.

I got the message recently.

Hey all, I’m enjoying my new ā€˜22 I’ve had for 5 months now! Weather has been milder here in Canada this year although today was my first drive in -28c (-22f) and car was great so far.

It’s parked outside right now while we’re out with the fam and at this temp I would have plugged in the block heater of an ICE so it would heat the water jacket and oil.

With this car it’s more the battery, and then transmission fluid (built into the motor casing) that I’d want to be gentle with until it warms up.

Iirc plugging into 220v keeps the battery warm (above freezing) for the most part. Does 110v do the same? If so maybe I’ll pick up a cheap 110v cable as my mobile charger is my main charger in my garage at home.

I’m going to monitor my range today to see how much it’s affected. Cheers and good luck staying warm this week everyone!

Why park the MME when it’s cold out?
