This may be off-topic, but I want to see if I’m able to answer this question. The question is I will be renting a car in Los Angeles. I am choosing an EV when I spoke with Avis Budget. They mention they have Tesla three short range as their primary rental, I asked about a Mustang Mach E And they said there is a potential that they will have it but would not confirm. They also mentioned EV six as well as ionic six of these which would you recommend I’m not a Tesla fan as I really rely on Apple CarPlay while I’m out of town for the map GPS thoughts?

TBH just rent a gas car and save yourself the headache. Public charging in LA is super overcrowded and you’ll waste a lot of time on your trip finding and waiting for charging.

You typically don’t get to choose the car unless you paid for a specific model. They’ll just give you what’s available. You might even get a Kia Niro EV or Chevy Bolt with super slow charging.

This is right now 9:30 at night….

If you MUST have an EV the Teslas will be the best choice convenience wise. They just simply have the most charging stations with the most stalls. The numbers are how many chargers are available at each station.

Unless you have a lot of free time, I would not rent an EV. And im an environmentalist. Get a hybrid or something.

I rent a mustang or a lightning every time I travel. In fact, I am in a rental now. Most of the time it is from Los Angeles airport. What you have to do even if you have a car assigned to you before you get there is go to the counter and ask specifically for one of those cars.

Oh. At LAX, apparently the manager keeps the lighting for himself (although there were other Lightning’s there at times). It’s really annoying especially that they don’t log Lightning’s in the system.

I did just that. I’m going hybrid
Did the same thing for our month in FL. I looked around the area we were staying and they had SC stations but the condo didn’t have any L2 chargers. In my time there I only saw a few EVs.

The hybrid took some getting used to. It was anemic compared to my GT.

Absolutely save yourself the trouble. I rented an EV last year. They said the likely car was a Tesla or Polestar, but I ended up with a very slow charging Solterra. It really isn't worth renting an EV and taking the risk that you spend all your time trying to charge.

I’ll be in LA and doing lots of driving from Port Hueneme to Ontario and Long Beach. I guess I just talked myself out of EV

With all that driving definitely regular ICE or hybrid will be easier. With how big and heavily populated SoCal is, the non-Tesla fast charging infrastructure is severely lacking.

Forgot about the Solterra! (And bZ4x). They dumped a lot of those into rental fleets. Absolutely one of the worst EVs to rent with their terrible charging.

First, I love my ME! So I rented one during my last trip and found it to be uber-messy (pun intended!). Had to drive 15 minutes each way to find a decent public charger; the battery capacity gauge is too precise in that Avis/Budget wanted me to check in the car at 80% full or more, not 79%, as they charge for missing the check out amount. As you know, the fuel gauge in an ICE is nowhere near that precise, so you get some flexibility during the return. Unless where I'm staying somewhere that has an EVSE , I'll never rent any EV again during travel.
