Don’t remember seeing this mentioned before …

Last night, shortly after I had plugged in the MME, I saw the lights in the house flicker. It was very short - like less than a second. Sure enough, it was a brief power failure as the wifi and router and cable box were all rebooting. I didn’t really think about the car until later. I looked at the Ford Pass app when I went to bed and saw “Charge paused.” Hmmm. Then the light bulb went on (!) and I connected the dots. Went down to the garage and the charging lights at the charge port were out. Unplugged it, plugged it back in and it started charging again as normal.

So, … I guess a power failure while charging, however brief, will terminate the charge session requiring a manual restart. There was no option in the FP app to restart or start the charge. I have a ChargePoint HomeFlex hardwired for a data point - not sure if the car or the charger locked in the pause but I’m guessing it was the car. I would have thought that it would just restart the charge after power was restored since it said “paused” and not “terminated or “charge fault.”

I suspect that the flicker induced a surge that garbled something in either the car or EVSE. I’m pretty sure I’ve interrupted power and charging restarted. I might try flipping a breaker while charging to confirm.

I have had situations where the power flickered off then came back on. Sometimes the session will restart. However it often will not. If the session doesn’t restart on its own you must unplug the charger from the car and plug it back in. The session should restart at that point.

No, you can’t restart the session from the app.

I got a 22kW ABB charge point and that just goes through the reboot process after a power cut and carries on as before the outage.

Maybe it’s a charge point thing rather than a car thing that stopped your charge.

Usually if the session doesn't restart after a power outage, it's the fault of the EVSE. But depending on the characteristics of the brownout or power flicker, the Mach-E may detect an out of specification voltage and go into fault mode, which will require charging to be manually restarted.

If the power went completely dead for enough seconds, then the EVSE should perform a complete reboot and resume charging (most, but not all EVSEs support resume after power outage).

A potential workaround is to stop the session and then restart it in the ChargePoint app. Or you can force a remote EVSE reboot to get it going again. I'm not 100% sure if that will work in all situations, but it's worth a shot if you can't get to it immediately.

You can ask the customer service about the charger troubleshooting, if the charger is no problem, it may be the car.

I only looked at the FordPass app to see if I could restart it because I didn’t want to head down two flights to the garage and back (already in my jammie’s). Idin’t think of trying the ChargePoint app.
