No, they would be like majority of the automotive world. And looking at forums like this majority of customers would prefer that.
True. All cars should be built to the whims and desires of the loudest boomers on Internet forums. That’s sure to be a winning solution.

I can see the problem of the opposite situation. Ford could end up being sued because a child was abducted from a car when a thief enabled the capacitors and opened the doors.
Really?

In the likelihood of scenarios, this seems to fit in the “extremely low unlikely to ever happen” scenario.

For this to take place, a car would have to have lost power AND a child would be left inside AND the parent would have to leave the child alone AND right at that moment someone was looking to kidnap that kid.

Statistically speaking, the chances of all those lining up would be basically zero.

I think it would be better to solve for just the first two things happening.

Should be build to be better. And in every case “new” is not instantly better.

People want a, in this case, 3rd emergency backup system. I don’t think a physical key for emergency use is going to make everyone under the age of 60 refuse to buy the vehicle.

Apparently I'm the only owner who has fostered the proper master/pet relationship with their Mach-E.

I dunno, I'm in favor of a design change going forward and maybe a software update... but suing over this... sorry. I have no sympathy for the plaintiffs.

It's pretty funny that people think that because a lawsuit is filed that a car maker is going to change future design (or provide a change to sold vehicles). This is a frivolous lawsuit likely brought by a law firm that specializes in class actions, where the lawyers get the majority of a settlement, if there ever is one.

I don't believe either person at the root of this was harmed in anyway. It will be thrown out.

I'm not defending the design, just laughing at the lawsuit.

I don't think telling people, from now on bring your keys "just in case" is practical
People have been carrying keys since keys were invented. I fail to understand how carrying a key now isn't 'practical'.

Mine does - a rock ? seriously, my front door has a battery powered electronic lock. My garage has a battery-powered keypad to open the door. Both sets of batteries would have to die, or the front door batteries would have do die, coupled with a power outage, before I’d have to use the rock. In which case, I have homeowner’s insurance.
Note: (the electronic lock does have a key, which I keep safely stored inside the house ?)

FYI I’ve used Schlage and Yale locks and both styles I use do not have a key as a backup method. They do have 2 metal nubs sticking off the keypad (usually at the bottom) that you can touch a 9v battery to temporary power the lock with though. Even though yours has a key I bet it also has the 9V battery contacts as well.

And with that, I’ve used the 9V battery contacts zero times in the last 11 years.

In the context of this discussion. Your Mach E doesn't have a key, just a FOB. To redesign entry into this vehicle requiring a key would be impractical at this point. As I've mentioned, many people use Paak to get in, and that's only going to increase over time. The reason to use Paak is to not have to carry around a physical key or FOB. The future for car entry is going to be more keyless methods as technology advances making a physical key obsolete.

Nope apparently emergency key is unfathomable now.

I can only assume you are really looking forward to your The Homer being built. Lol.
if you want a key so bad, go buy a car with a key. Wallet Vote engage!

No I’m looking forward to your post about being unable to get into your car after the 12V dies. Oh you have a jumper but it’s in the frunk!?

Guess you can call roadside assistance and wait a couple hours. Glad there was no possible way to avoid that.

You can even have an emergency key small enough to fit in your phone case…amazing the possibilities!

It’s about as likely as the situation alleged in the lawsuit.

The scenario in the lawsuit has actually happened. At least two forum members have had to have their windshield smashed to get children out. (Said children were never left unattended).

Thief waiting to break in and steal unattended child is still sitting at 0 cases. So seems more unlikely.

I agree, but that had nothing to do with anything you or I said about people CARRYING a key.
Your Mach E doesn't have a key, just a FOB.
My FOB has a key blank that could contain a physical key. Anyone that still wishes to carry a FOB wouldn't even have to carry anything 'extra'.
