I tried to use an OBD dongle to work with APRP on my iPhone, not much advantage for the price. But somewhere in the mess my CarPlay would not reconnect. I deleted both the car from the phone and the phone from the car. I turned off the car, turned off the phone and tried to connect, no luck. I did it again and again. I waited hours later and did it again and it connected. Any idea on the issue?
the OBD was linked through ABRP but I took the dongle out and closed ABRP app and no luck. I also am up to date on car and phone apps.
I was disappointed with the performance and versatility of the ABRP app. I was hoping for more flexibility and functionality. I would not invest in an OBD dongle to try and improve the interface.

I use both frequently and have never had an issue. I would recommend you have a friend/family member try pairing their iPhone with your MME and see if they have the same issue. If they can pair the issue is with your phone, otherwise it’s with your car.

I had a few issues on our trip last summer but was able to resolve it by plugging the phone in vs just BT.

Turn your phone off and back on, often the phones themselves have an issue not the car.

Wireless CarPlay can be flaky at times with Apple Music, known issue, not specifically a Ford problem. Disconnecting the phone from CarPlay and reconnecting solves it 99.9% of the time. Some of this depends on which apps you have running on the phone too. Wireless CP can also lose connection if you drive through areas with severe radio interference. Plugging the phone in for CarPlay pretty much fixes all of it. I do wireless since the convenience of keeping my phone in my pocket wins out. But on road trips I plug in since the experience is better and navigation drains the battery so the phone stays charged while connected. The wireless charging pads that Ford likes to use are very finicky and don't get along with many larger phones.

Adding ODB dongles to increase app functionality is stupid. ABRP and others could try a bit harder to integrate directly.

I use CarPlay every day with the occasional issue. Same is true of every car I've had since Android Auto and CarPlay were invented.

yeah, I returned the ODB dongle, it was not much use and I think it might have been the cause. After 3 times of deleting and resetting both my phone and car I was able to pair with CarPlay even though my iPhone said CarPlay was active. Also I had to reset my PaaK

FYI Apple's Bluetooth stack is pretty bad and a lot of issues can be resolved by restarting the phone or at least flipping BT off and back on.
