I am planning a road trip from Cleveland to Nashville in the next few weeks. I dont have PaaK set up at all.
The hotel we are staying at only offers valet parking and I was thinking of setting up PaaK as a backup/emergency key just in case
something happens to the key fob. Question I have is once PaaK is set up what takes priority when u have both on you, the fob or PaaK.
I dont want to create any problems by setting up Paak if i can avoid them.

There is no issue with FOB and PaaK both being present.

It’s very unclear which one takes precedence. I think that the fob will probably connect quicker and from a farther distance than the PaaK. But that’s based on my observation that my wife’s profile ends up being the default when we both approach the car together. She uses the fob and I use my PaaK. But that could be because she is profile 1 and I’m profile 2 in the vehicle. ??

Similar issues. I usually drive but I usually have a fob and maybe have the FordPass app open. My wife usually has app open and no fob. Most of the time it works fine. Occasionally it picks her profile even when I’m driving.

I don’t think it’s a fob vs PaaK problem. It has happened even when she is miles away. She is profile 1. I think it just picks the default sometimes. No idea why

5 days a week I have both on me (going to work) and on the weekend I only carry a phone. Most longer trips I only have my phone. That being said, it is seemless and you will have no issues having both the Fob and the Phone with you.

I do keep a spare fob in a faraday bag in the center console just in case. But after almost 4 years the only time I use that Fob is when I forget to bring the other fob with if for some reason I leave the car at the dealer. I bet I'm not the only one that uses PAAK and drove to the dealer, only to turn around and go back home to get the damn Fob!!!

The advantage of having PaaK configured is that theoretically you don't need a fob or a phone to unlock and start the vehicle. PaaK requires you to setup an emergency start code on the center console. Assuming you have a door sill unlock code as well, you'll be able to get in the locked car and get the vehicle ready to drive. That's three discrete ways to access your car for operation and all are available at the same time on demand, with no conflict among them.

Undoubtedly devices will fail, but redundant methods keep you from being stymied for the most part. At a base level, however, you will always need a minimum of electrical energy to do anything.

Both can be present at the same time. No issues

I believe FOB connects quicker, at least it does for me.

Not theoretical, I have used only PaaK for 4+ years, my fob has never left my desk. Used the backup code just a couple of times.

Sounds good everybody, Thanks..After hearing the responses I decided to set up Paak at lunch today but when I try to set it up I get an ERROR.PLEASE TRY AGAIN LATER. message. Question, do I need to unpair my phone first then try to set up Paak.

There’s one gotcha with having both a fob and PAAK - walk-away lock won’t lock if you leave one of them in the car.

Isn't it curious;
You have to set up PAAK to use your phone as a key, yet if you have Ford Pass you can lock or unlock your car from anywhere. On the other hand my Mach e key FOB range is dismal compared to my 2018 Ford Escape key FOB. When in a parking lot I can use my Escape Key FOB to find the car hundreds of feet away but the Mach E key FOB range is nearly "line of site" only. ( Yes I have checked the battery.) Also, because of past problems with Ford Pass on my Smart Phone, I have never set it up as PAAK. So I cannot comment on which gets precedence but if you are nervous about it, I suggest you check if out yourself instead of trusting "opinions". In our world with have 2 key FOBS and that works just fine for over 2 years. Regarding the Escape Key FOB I have even been able to get it to find my Escape on a different parking lot level. My Mach E key FOB would never do that but I can honk the horn with Ford Pass.

Just my observation, Good Luck.

When I got a new phone I had to set it up and I had problems. The best thing I can tell you is call the support line. (The number came up with the error message, as I recall. Or it's listed somewhere in FordPass.) They were very helpful. They have access to info you do not have, like if your car and phone are connecting to their server, etc. I ended up deleting all phones (my old phone and my wife's phone), then starting all over.

Try valet mode.
When you tap on valet mode it gives a door code and startup code. They will right that on the ticket for your car and you don’t have to give them the key.

I've carried a fob and PaaK-enabled phone for most of the time I've owned my car and it's been fine. Walk-away lock might be a bit less reliable with that setup, but that seems to be mostly resolved and is easily addressed by issuing a lock command from your phone or fob. (I have my mirrors auto-fold when the car locks, so a quick glance tells me if it's locked.)

As for valet mode, while it sounds like a great idea, many have reported issues with valets just not getting it. Carrying a fob and having PaaK is a much better solution IMO.

My experience with the FOB range is totally different! Mine can open and unlock and lock from a insane distance. Have you checked battery strength in your FOB?
