I can't find a solution for this, but when the car is locked and I walk up to the trunk and push the button on the trunk it just flashes the cars lights but doesn't open the trunk. If the car is unlocked the trunk button works fine. Its very annoying that I need to unlock the doors before pushing the trunk release button.

I've tried a few suggestions like putting it in and out of valet mode, turning off auto lock etc...

Does anyone have a solution for this? It only stopped working about a month ago, so seems like it might be related to a software update.

I have a 2024 Select RWD.

I'm not sure if this is exactly what you're experiencing. But coming up to the car if it's locked you hit the fob button or the liftgate button, you can hear a click and sometimes liftgate pops open slightly, you have to hit button second time for it to open, this was a bug at least up into 23.5 model year. As an aside if car is unlocked it opens normally. An ota came out for this but mine never got it. The option for me is dealer visit for module update.

A thread with some tips. https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/2023-liftgate-not-opening-when-locked.39868/

This isn't exactly whats happening. I dont hear a click and it doesnt open slightly. It just doesnt open. This is the Select model so no automatic lift gate. I push the liftgate button over and over and over and all it does is flash the cars lights. If I unlock the doors with the FOB or open one of the door, the liftgate button works as expected and opens the trunk.

As long as my PAAK is recognized, which to me means that the Bluetooth options in FordPass are available and/or the door buttons or proximity lighting has responded to my approach, then my hatch opens regardless of being locked or unlocked.

2023.5, by the way.

I noticed with my iPhone that something changed lately. For the last several years the car lights came on when I was about 100 feet away, but lately it's more like 10 feet and sometimes when I walk up to the rear, I have to even wait a few seconds for lights to come on and I can open the hatch. I'm thinking iPhone changed the power level on the bluetooth or maybe an OTA changed the trigger bluetooth power level because people were complaining the car kept waking up in their garage and draining the LVB. Not sure, but it definitely is starting to bother me.

You aren't alone. My trunk button is very hit or miss. Sometimes it will open, sometimes it will flash like yours. The doors usually work fine, but sometimes take 2 presses, but the trunk is a mess.

That may or may not be my issue. The Bluetooth functions in the FordPass app have failed to connect for months. I may try to clear the cache or reinstall the app to see if that fixes it.

I also have the FOB on me, which is how I can get in the doors, but the trunk won't usually let me.

sometimes just opening the trunk with the button on the FOB will re-sync things and then the button on the door will start working again.

Amazing, you're a genius hahaha. That did it. I couldn't figure it out for the life of me. I hardly use the fob to unlock the trunk, who would have thought that's all it was. Thanks so much!

Hardly a genius. All the stuff I have comes from this forum. Just happen to remember some of the easy solutions to quirky stuff.

that's amazing. I've never heard about this fix before. Tho I've never actually experienced OPs issue. I've got the one where if you hit the button or the fob to open liftgate, if car is locked it only pops open slightly. I never got the ota so whenever I finally go to the dealer I'll have the moduled updated.

I've tried the FOB method, and it does work for a time but then starts acting weird again.

I tried clearing my app cache, and then reinstalled the app but now my app is totally messed up. I can't use PAAK anymore because the app fails to "pair". (Not a huge issue since I don't rely on PAAK, but I was trying to get the app to work with the Bluetooth controls). I should note that the phone itself pairs properly and Android Auto will work. I'm not sure what else to do now short of a full reset. It almost sounds like the android issue from earlier this year, but my phone is totally up to date.

You will have to delete and set up the phone key again. The Bluetooth for calls/media is different than the Bluetooth phone key.
