Ford has had battery issues with all of it's PHEV products (all are delayed) the issue is supplier quality issues from the battery supplier. Research Kuga. In December Ford signaled a change of heart in whether it would buy battery systems or build their own. It sounds to me like they do not want to depend on a possibly suspect supply chain. Tesla was a very early user of these items and has worked hard to move the technology forward. In fact they will now not just build the Battery frames and structure but will build their own cells in their own factory.
So we should assume there‘s a safety issue because Ford hasn’t said there’s not a safety issue?I think the overall point is that without any communication from Ford, how do we NOT know there isn't a safety issue?

No, not at all. I'm just saying that it's human nature to think the worse when there's no official information. People are free to think however they wish of course, but I'm sure some will immediately begin to question safety issues. Honestly, I'm really enjoying driving the Model Y around. Granted it's only been 2 days, and there's a lot of snow and sludge around. There's a lot to get used to, as it's the first electric car I've ever had. I love tech, and that's the reason why I wanted a MME in the first place. It wasn't so much for the environmental benefits. The Tesla fits that for me perfectly. Anyways, here's a Pro/Con list of the Model Y and how it stacked up to the MME in my mind.
Pros (for me):
- The charging is so simple to use, at home, with superchargers, and public pay stations. I havent had any problems that others have had with the MME and public stations. The scheduling is really easy too.
- The range is just awesome (Long Range Dual Motor). 326 miles (90% of that is what I set the charge to, so about 293 miles of useable range)! I don't think range anxiety will be an issue.
- Sitting on my couch I can find a place on Google Maps and send the location to the Tesla. Once I get in the car, the Navigation system already has it loaded and ready to take me there.
- In the navigation system, there's a "hungry or lucky" selection. If you pick "hungry", it will suggest a restaurant and take you there. My wife and I are always wondering where to go eat, and we're relatively new to the area, so this is nice.
- All the Superchargers and some DCFC stations are already loaded on the nav
- I really like the streaming media function. It doesn't have SirusXm (con), but this is a nice way to search for 80s Hits, and it will play random 80s music, like pandora. It connects to my phone no problem and will play XM radio that way (through the XM App), and other podcasts I like
- It's so quick!
- Heated Steering wheel is awesome (I know MME has this), and the rear heated seats is a nice bonus (MME does not have this)
- I like how the Model Y sits higher than the MME. This makes me feel like I'm sitting in a CUV, rather than a sedan.
- The back of the Model Y has more utility / space than the MME.
- I like the minimalist feel. I don't miss having buttons, and I'm fine with no volume dial on the touch screen. On the Model Y, I can press the scroll wheel and it mutes the audio. I can also control the volume with the wheel, so I dont think I need the knob.
- The touchscreen controls / menus seem less confusing than the MME's. The system is also very responsive. I spent about 20 minutes with the MME in November and really messed around with the Sync 4A system. The menu seemed convoluted, but I'm sure once you get used to it, it's fine
- The voice control system is awesome. I really like that I dont have to say "Ok Ford" first. I can just say "set the temp...", or "take me to Home Depot", etc.
- Dual Wireless Phone Charging is great. My wife specifically commented that the MME didn't have that option (also works with my iPhone 12 Pro, with a case).
- When I picked up the car, there was no salesperson around pressuring me. They set up contactless pickup. I had as much time as I wanted to inspect the car. I went home, filled out DMV paperwork, and FedEx'd them back to Tesla today - simple.
- I like that there is no rotary dial for the gears. The stalk system just makes sense
- You can set a pin to get inside the glove box
- You can set a valet mode to control speed and access to the frunk or glove box (cant remember if MME had this)
- Sentry Mode and Dashcam are cool (I think Ford will add this soon). There's a USB drive in the glovebox so it doesnt take up space in the other slots
- My wife really likes the Dog Mode (for climate)
- Power control to move the steering wheel (tilt, in/out)
- Power release for the back seats to lie flat
Cons:
- I actually think the car looks better in person than in photos. With that said, I don't really like the front end very much. I like the way the rest of the car looks, but wish the front had more character. The MME clearly looks better, more aggressive, and stylish.
- I think the interior lacks a certain luxury feel. Yes, the touchscreen is large and nice, and the steering wheel feels great, but the materials just seem inferior to the MME. I had to wrap the piano black console and the wood-grain top running along the heater vents. It looks better now, but wish it came looking better. The seats are comfortable, but I think the MME seats are a little more comfortable.
- It sucks that I couldn't get the $7,500 tax credit, but maybe there will be a new tax law changing that?
- I would have liked to have the Pony puddle lamps, but from what I understand, you can get aftermarket Tesla ones
- The Model Y doesn't come with the 220v charging cord. That sucks, and I'm glad Ford offers it
- I think I would prefer the MME's door opening system BETTER than the Model Ys. The Model Y's looks better (to me), but the MME's functions better.
- A drain in the Frunk would have been nice, but really, how often am I going to use that? I've had the Model Y for 2 days and the only time I even opened the Frunk was to make sure it worked and there was a light inside.
- I would have liked a pin code system to get inside the Tesla, like the MME
- Wish the Tesla had birds eye view
- Wish the Tesla had auto park without having to pay $10K for the FSD computer.
- Wish the Tesla had the foot-activated hatch release
This is my Pro-Con list off the top of my head. I'm sure more will come to mind as I keep driving the car, and I start to read more reviews of the MME. Hope this helps.

I get that you're worried, but any car can catch fire. Teslas do, as well as ICE cars.
Have you tried flying from LA to KC? Depending on the airline, your hub may be well out of the way. Railroad lines are more like connecting flights than asking Google Maps for the shortest or fastest route. Remember that sometimes railroads don't connect even if they intersect or run beside each other.I know..this is nuts!!!!
It is absolutely a different battery, and I believe it was a different vendor. It was a while ago so I can't be positive, but nonetheless it was a problem discovered last June and Ford held back on releasing Kugas that didn't have the issue while they did extensive testing to be certain.Are you sure, and has Ford said so?
I was just talking with a new co-worker who told me all about her yellow Mustang, Beatrice. Poor Beatrice caught fire and burned up while she was in a drugstore. Yep.
