Given an older model can already detect a slower vehicle is ahead, notify you that passing is possible, automatically do the lane change (once you tap the signal).

I’d love to know what someone thinks requires different hardware to cut out the you tapping the signal step.

But given the article doesn’t actually quote Ford at all. So who knows, it’s just an Ad for 25’s.

I’m not surprised. I can’t remember if this was explicitly stated before but somehow I feel like it was telegraphed that we weren’t likely to get future versions.

That's fine. I have 1.3 on my '23 Prem Mach and it works well in SoCal stop-n-go traffic. Automated/Assisted Driving systems will ultimately always be hardware dependent. Newer technologies and advancements means the goal posts will always be moving and you have keep buying the latest vehicle to get the latest features. That's a financially losing proposition unless you can eat all the depreciation losses. The smart move, at least for me, is to hang on to what I have now until it's not supported and then jump up to the latest generation.

Or, I can just drive the car myself. Hopefully that'll still be an option ?

Don't expect anything better from ford. They are not teslas so software updates is how Android phones used to be like

BC1.3 is not coming to my 2024 Mach-E anytime soon. I’m so over this BC crap. Ford should be ashamed of itself. Not that I give a shit anyway. But still, many people do.

I don't think we can have it both ways. We want Ford to continously upgrade their cars and we want to continue to get OTA updates. We know in every technology company that when new hardware comes out you cannot always get the new features. Improved cameras, higher speed processing allow for new features. So I'm not surprised at all that we cannot get 1.5 on previous models. We know that the earlier versions have been under powered for a long time. If 1.5 requires higher speed processing to accomplish some of the 1.5 features then we are out of luck. I think the only thing Ford can do when this happens is either reduce the cost of maintaining BC on earlier models where we get bug fixes and improved map coverage for a far lesser amount or make 1.3 free going forward. I would bet that the reduced fee for BC to continue to get bug fixes and map coverage would be the best option for all.

Did 1.3 not come pre-installed on your 2024?

Don’t forget Tesla did the same thing but was dishonest about it. Tesla went vision-only and claimed all future versions of FSD would work on the new sensor suite. However, they added radars back and then released a new FSD that required the new sensors.

Lightning 1.4 ~ Mach E 1.3
Not according to Ford...

What are the differences between BlueCruise versions?
BlueCruise 1.0 – Builds on available Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Centering to add hands-free driving capabilities on prequalified sections of divided highways called hands-free Blue Zones.

BlueCruise 1.2 – Adds new features including In-Lane Repositioning (which can give you more space by subtly shifting away from vehicles in adjacent lanes) and Lane Change Assist (tapping your turn signal to initiate a hands-free lane change).

BlueCruise 1.3 – Helps you stay engaged longer in hands-free mode by improving performance, with greater ability to navigate narrow lanes and curves.

BlueCruise 1.4 – Delivers greater in-lane stability, while automatically and smoothly adjusting the vehicle’s speed in even more curves, allowing for more hands-free time and a more continuous drive.

BlueCruise 1.5 – Adds new Automatic Lane Change feature, which enhances the hands-free highway driving experience by smoothly and seamlessly initiating an automatic lane change to help keep you moving at the speed of traffic.

I didn't say they were identical.

1.4 was developed as the next generation of BlueCruise for the Lightning, while 1.3 was developed for the Mach E.

1.3 was never installed on Lightnings.

1.4 was develop on Lightnings. Except for an unsuccessful attempt to run it across the platforms, 1.4 wasn't deployed to Mach Es. Instead, 1.3 was rolled out to the Mach E.

In the article, Motor Trend states that 2025 ADAS has more memory and processing power.

If a hardware upgrade was available, would you be willing to buy it?
If yes, what cost would be too much?
