I have rarely needed a spare, but knowing there are no good places to grab the rear for a tow on a Mach E, I went ahead and I put one in, and it fits nicely in the back. The cover sits level with the top level of the trunk. I mounted an anchor point in the floor of the hatch area, using existing stu there and used a ratcheting strap to hold it in place, no rattling, and for safety.

I bought on Amazon.

Time for replacing out the stock OEM tires and getting a set of RFT (zero air pressure) tires in 235-55x19.

Bridgestone DriveGuard 2 - my favorite.

No, but I do carry a tire plug repair kit. I haven't used it for the MME yet.
I carry a kit like that on my motorcycle. It’s been very handy on four or five occasions - I really should get another kit to keep in the frunk of the car. It fixes the sort of neat, small hole type of punctures you get from nails and screws so easily - on the bike, I’m usually riding off again in 15-20 mins max.

I'm interested in Run Flat Tires. Could you elaborate on why you like Bridgestone DriveGuard 2 tires?

It took 4 months since ordered but I finally got my GT Rally this week. Car is beautiful and performance incredible! Still don't like this lack of a spare tire. Dealer says any wheel that fits a GT will fit a Rally but doesn't recommend any tire that doesn't have same diameter as original 235-55-19 CrossClimate 2's which is 29.1 inches. Tirerack.com is no help, they don't list any rim that will fit a Rally. Modernspare is out of stock until mid September. Any suggestions? Anyone replaced their original rims want to sell one?
I sold my GTPE and am looking to sell my Modern Spare kit. Where in NH are you? I'm in Littleton MA.

I'll post an add in the marketplace shortly. I'm not going to ask much since I want a quick sale and prefer not to deal with shipping.

Also, I would keep it anchored to the D-rings in the trunk. I replaced the thin d-rings on the Modern Spare bag with some stronger carabiners.

I got a Modern Spare (Ford Mach-E Spare Tire Kit. Light Alloy, Compact | Modern Spare) for my wife's 2023 Select. We only put it in the back hatch area when we are going out of town. It comes with a jack and lug wrench. It is heavy but doesn't take up too much space and I just use straps to secure it. We keep it in the garage when driving locally). They are a little expensive but worth having just in case. I have seen used ones listed on FB.

Bridgestone DriveGuards are RFTI prefer because I put them on all my BMWs after the original RFT wore out.

They run softer and smoother with almost no noise - something that older RFT generations could not do.

I love them because they ride like a regular tire, but if they should lose air, they can still run for up to 50 miles under 45MPH.

My wife's PHEV car has RFT because I don't want her to pull over on the side of a road or freeway and get in a predatory dangerous situation by 2 legged animals.

I'd rather she just drive to the tire store instead of waiting for roadside service....

Thank you. I was leaning towards RFTs, and you have helped to convince me. Yes, they cost more, but it's still cheaper than a spare tire kit. I'm OK if a tire is ruined as long as everyone is safely home or at a repair shop. The Military Humvee uses RFTs for the same reason - get out of trouble and fix things later.

I bought a Modern Spare kit with jack when the car was new. Kept the jack in the compartment under the rear cargo area, spare in the garage, figured I'd call the Mrs. if need be and she could bring me the tire. Packed the tire under the rear cargo area for longer trips. The cargo area floor rides on the spare wheel, a little higher than the high factory setting.

Unfortunately I'm a widower now and living alone, (cancer sucks) so the spare rides with me as described above all the time. I put the tire in the car when she was sick and we needed to get to medical appointments no matter what, and just never took it out.

Mostly I have a 40 mile round trip commute, but for the occasional other job it's 180 mile round trip. I'm aware the tire could become a projectile in a bad enough crash, but I'm willing to let it sit there. I can't justify sitting around for hours potentially in a sketchy neighborhood waiting for a flatbed tow for something a piddly as a flat tire. It's six and a half dozen of one, 78 of the other for me in terms of safety, and having the tire handy won out.

I've used the Modern Spare jack and done a practice tire change in the garage, front and rear. The jack is a challenge to use in terms of mechanical effort with such a heavy car, but it can be done.
Very sorry about your wife, John.

I note you keep the spare under the floor of the trunk. Interestingly I suspect the floor might lessen the chance of the spare getting into the passenger area in a bad accident, as it would likely make it tougher for the spare to get over the rear seats. Not perfect, but could be helpful.

I haven't gotten spare because of the various issues mentioned here. I do have cargo rings both front and back in the trunk, so I could secure it, but I don't want to dedicate that much space to a spare.

Cannot remember last time I changed a tire on the road. Or had a flat, for that matter. My standing policy when we lived in Minneapolis/St Paul metro area was, if you get a flat, call roadside assistance. It's crazy dangerous to change a tire on busy roads.
It's a lot of work to change. There's no room in this car to keep it without consuming a bunch of the relatively-small trunk. And it's dangerous, as you said, to change a flat on the side of the road. I've done this once in my life. Never again. Call AAA or similar.

This seems an odd sentiment to me. I've changed tires on cars, trucks, motorhomes, trailers, tractors, motorcycles, and bicycles since I learned how to ride and have never perceived any serious risk to life and limb! I've never once called roadside assistance for such matters. That may change for me, given the size of a full sized spare and appropriate jack for this car. My usual self-reliance may not be the most practical option so I'll probably learn to embrace the chintzy can of tire snot they equip cars with these days...

Hi - I have a question based upon your experience.....

Let's say your MME is parked in "tight" on a busy city street next to a high curb. You see that a curbside tire is flat and the tire stem is in an unreachable position, down where the curb meets the street. What would you do to get out?

Yes, the safety aspect was the main reason I have RFT on all our vehicles - with or without spare.

Since RFT a tad more expensive, I always opt for the tire warranty certificates so that if the RFT has to be driven to the tire shop for repair/replacement - the cost of replacement is zero.

Most likely if I drove on zero pressure to the tire shop, the sidewalls are probably damaged and will need replacement.

Had this happen on my wife's Honda Clarity PHEV - RFT went flat due to a puncture, drove it to the shop without pulling over, and they replaced the tire at no cost.

Much safer for her not to pull over and wait for roadside assistance.

Thanks for your encouraging info. Where I drive, many roads don't have a shoulder. When it's time, I will go with run flats. I may buy tires from a Ford dealer since they know how to raise and lower an MME without damage. If I trash a tire in the process of getting everything fixed, so be it. I have mounted tires by hand, and changed tires on all sorts of vehicles, so if I don't have to do it anymore, that's even better.
