I bought a spare from Modern Spare and it came in handy for a flat on a trip. I just keep it in the trunk. Mainly for long trips.

Laying it down isn't secured.

No, but I thought about it. I went nearly 4 years without a flat. But just recently I got two flat tires in three days, one of which could not readily be repaired and made the car undriveable.

I am considering getting a Modern Spare, but would generally leave it in my garage.
I feel your pain, brother Phil!

2 flats on 1 trip, 100miles from home when the rivets somebody scattered across the road near my village came out on A1M just south of Scotch Corner.

Used the goo repair on one and wound a screw into the other hole which got me home.

I now carry 3 puncture repair goo bottles, mushroom puncture repair kits and those illegal string-type puncture repair kits as a get-me-home.

I, too, bought from Modern Spare. How far did you drive on it, and did the car throw any codes? Mine is in the garage and when I first saw it the smaller diameter caused me to give pause…any idea how tolerant the MME is to a smaller diameter tire?

150 miles, no codes, worked perfectly

I got a flat 2 years ago on a different car with run flats. Made it home no problem with no air pressure in tire. I think either include a donut spare or sell it with run fats should be the rule.
On a vehicle this heavy, I would not trust a donut.

When @Carsinmyblood and I first ordered our Mach-Es, we bought a wheel/tire from someone here on the forum who swapped theirs out. We put it in the trunk on road trips. Although it came in handy when I got a puncture @ 600 miles and it took 2 weeks for the dealer to get a new tire (June ’21).

This guy squeezes a full sized spare plus complete roadside emergency and off-road vehicle rescue gear into the trunk (secured with tiedowns and wooden blocks to keep it from flying around the cabin). Frunk is similarly dedicated to a massive jack with the lifting pucks.

Note that the US market (and probably rest of North America) 2023 Job2 and newer MMEs have only two little plastic tie down rings in the cargo area. These are wholly inadequate for use with something as massive as a spare tire. I moved my forward cargo rings from my 2021 into my 2024 and changed the existing two rear plastic rings with the 2021-2023 Job1 metal rings just to lash my dog crate to the car. ??

Yes, on a vehicle this heavy, I would be wary of jacking it up on the side of the road. You may be stopped on a soft and sloped surface. The jack may slip. Also, what if a driver side tire is damaged? Working near traffic can be deadly. We lost a fellow student in high school doing this.

I bought a Modern Spare kit with jack when the car was new. Kept the jack in the compartment under the rear cargo area, spare in the garage, figured I'd call the Mrs. if need be and she could bring me the tire. Packed the tire under the rear cargo area for longer trips. The cargo area floor rides on the spare wheel, a little higher than the high factory setting.

Unfortunately I'm a widower now and living alone, (cancer sucks) so the spare rides with me as described above all the time. I put the tire in the car when she was sick and we needed to get to medical appointments no matter what, and just never took it out.

Mostly I have a 40 mile round trip commute, but for the occasional other job it's 180 mile round trip. I'm aware the tire could become a projectile in a bad enough crash, but I'm willing to let it sit there. I can't justify sitting around for hours potentially in a sketchy neighborhood waiting for a flatbed tow for something a piddly as a flat tire. It's six and a half dozen of one, 78 of the other for me in terms of safety, and having the tire handy won out.

I've used the Modern Spare jack and done a practice tire change in the garage, front and rear. The jack is a challenge to use in terms of mechanical effort with such a heavy car, but it can be done.

Just curious. Once you get the spare where are you going to put it? How are you going to tie it down?
I have a full size spare in the cargo area secured with bungee cords.

Cannot remember last time I changed a tire on the road. Or had a flat, for that matter. My standing policy when we lived in Minneapolis/St Paul metro area was, if you get a flat, call roadside assistance. It's crazy dangerous to change a tire on busy roads.
Same here. Over four decades of driving under all conditions, including rural gravel roads. I've not had a true flat. I've had nails and screws in the tire that required some reinflation so I could get to a tire shop for repair or replacement. I'm at a point where I wouldn't risk my life to change a tire on the side of the road. Just call roadside assistance.

No, but I do carry a tire plug repair kit. I haven't used it for the MME yet.
