I feel your pain, brother Phil! No, but I thought about it. I went nearly 4 years without a flat. But just recently I got two flat tires in three days, one of which could not readily be repaired and made the car undriveable.
I am considering getting a Modern Spare, but would generally leave it in my garage.
I, too, bought from Modern Spare. How far did you drive on it, and did the car throw any codes? Mine is in the garage and when I first saw it the smaller diameter caused me to give pause…any idea how tolerant the MME is to a smaller diameter tire?I bought a spare from Modern Spare and it came in handy for a flat on a trip. I just keep it in the trunk. Mainly for long trips.
150 miles, no codes, worked perfectlyI, too, bought from Modern Spare. How far did you drive on it, and did the car throw any codes? Mine is in the garage and when I first saw it the smaller diameter caused me to give pause…any idea how tolerant the MME is to a smaller diameter tire?
On a vehicle this heavy, I would not trust a donut.I got a flat 2 years ago on a different car with run flats. Made it home no problem with no air pressure in tire. I think either include a donut spare or sell it with run fats should be the rule.
Yes, on a vehicle this heavy, I would be wary of jacking it up on the side of the road. You may be stopped on a soft and sloped surface. The jack may slip. Also, what if a driver side tire is damaged? Working near traffic can be deadly. We lost a fellow student in high school doing this.On a vehicle this heavy, I would not trust a donut.
I have a full size spare in the cargo area secured with bungee cords.Just curious. Once you get the spare where are you going to put it? How are you going to tie it down?
Same here. Over four decades of driving under all conditions, including rural gravel roads. I've not had a true flat. I've had nails and screws in the tire that required some reinflation so I could get to a tire shop for repair or replacement. I'm at a point where I wouldn't risk my life to change a tire on the side of the road. Just call roadside assistance.Cannot remember last time I changed a tire on the road. Or had a flat, for that matter. My standing policy when we lived in Minneapolis/St Paul metro area was, if you get a flat, call roadside assistance. It's crazy dangerous to change a tire on busy roads.
