I never saw an ICE where the gas flap opened when you brought a pump near it. It’s really not difficult to open the charge port. If it had it, I wouldn’t mind. Do I want it specifically? Nope. It’s not a feature that would sway me in any direction. It’s pointless.
It is on mine when it jams. I use an old credit card to push the charge cover flap towards the hinge and it moves 1mm to the left. It then opens without catching on the bodywork. My dealer wanted £135 just to look at it and then probably replace the whole charge port for £££££'s. I said no thanks, I'll carry on with the old credit card method. (Started just out of warranty of course)

Well then we should get rid of auto locking, or automatic headlights, auto wipers, and hands free driving and evey modern feature including electric cars as a whole what about power windows should be get rid of that too? I remember my first car with automatic headlights, I thought it was so cool and my father would ask are you to lazy to turn on the head lights? When he got his first truck with auto headlights he loved it. No more leaving your head lights on and waking up with a dead battery.
Auto locking is a pain in the ass. Even with it turned off my car sometimes locks itself on me. Pass. ??

Automatic headlights are '60s technology. My 1969 Cadillac had them, so not modern. I also have never left my headlights on with any of my other cars so not a big deal. ??

I can do with or without automatic wipers. Not a big deal to switch them on or change the interval. ?‍♂?

I bought a GT to drive. Hands-free driving is completely contrary to why I bought my car, so pass. ?‍♂?

I would just like a different type of door for the charge port. I loved the Lamborghini Countach-like door on the Fusion Energi. ??

All of those other features are actually useful. And actually cool. Auto-opening charge port doors are just gimmicky. They save no time or effort. As @macchiaz-o said, I would be okay with Ford adding the feature, but only if they also made the charge port door lockable, or otherwise less prone to being ripped off by car washes.
I will never get back those couple of minutes I’ve wasted over the last 3 years.

I love reading posts where people say their logic is flawed because….i think the bigger take away here is your father implying you lazy lol …

I’m a new MME owner (4 days now) coming from a 2020 Tesla Model 3 SR+. The charge port opening isn’t an automatic thing, the button on the charge handle needs to be pushed. It’s neat, but it’s a gimmick at best. It worked 99% of the time but the few times it didn’t, opening manually wasn’t a big deal.

Well I guess the subject line says it all. I was thinking about it today, I think it's pretty cool how the Tesla charge door opens with the charger, I was wondering if other manufacturers will adapt that feature.
We came to our 2024 Mach E GT from a Tesla Model 3 dual motor and we love our unbridled beast! But one of the few things that is irritating to us is not that the charge door doesn't open automatically, but that it doesn't close automatically. Can't tell you how many times we unplug the charger, put the cord away, get in the car, buckle up, turn it on, shift into gear and then get the "uh duh!" notification that we've left the charge door open!

I know--we'll get used to it, but we do miss the convenience of having it close automatically shortly after removing the charger.

Lol. I used to tell him dad why should I do it when something else could do it for me. So I guess he had a point. Lol

I have never owned a tesla but all my friends do and some of the things they do is unnecessary like the air vents for one, but really at least for me when I set my air vents I don't touch them again so its no big deal, but the charge door to open i think its so cool, i agree it should auto close I guess after 30 or 40 sec. it should not be to difficult to do all the hardware is there. Some else said here that other manufacturers have the auto doors too but if its like GM where you have to press a button that does not count.

Can't speak to Tesla, but other makes with motorized doors have all sorts of posts about doors jamming, doors won't close, door didn't close and I opened front door and bent fender, ...

I remember recently a guy testing 100% to 0% range on an EV. And he couldn’t open the door! He lucked out that after waiting a few minutes it opened.

At the most it should be a manual release from inside the car.

I will point out that the main reason ICE cars got locking gar doors (manual release) is because of people siphoning out gas, which isn’t possible for a EV.

If the concern is vandalism, well a little door isn’t going to stop them.

I'm all for automation, generally, but never for unilateral machine decision making when there are a number of choices trying to figure out what I want before I know myself. In that case it is just an annoying, over engineered solution looking for a problem. Elegant, simple design and execution will always win out in my estimation, despite the fact that our vehicles are essentially CoWs (Computers on Wheels).

I just wish it locked …. Dot care if it auto opens - but not being able to go through a carwash without painters tape - that’s kinda dumb in 2025.

I did not know that, that could be a serious problem, a friend of mine his auto wipers went off in a car wash and it ripped the arm off the vehicle. It was and expensive car wash.
