Looks like GM, Volvo and Polestar, which are all Android Automotive based and have access to the Playstore. Best thing about that ecosystem is that the apps, including Google maps, get updated on a regular basis without the need for OTAs.

I’m… underwhelmed. Not a huge fan of the physical layout with the overlapping screens. Looks confusing. The biggest plus appears to be the ability to customize the IPC info. I wonder if they’ve significantly reduced latency?

Which disqualifies them in my mind, until they come up with a way to use the system without providing any personally identifiable information to Google. The good thing about the Ford variant is that you can use Apple CarPlay (and I don’t think you need to “log into” Google to pair a phone.)

Must you sign in with Google to pair Apple car play to a 2025 Ford Explorer?

If not, then why disqualify cars with Android Automotive? Some of them also support CarPlay.

If only they could make SYNC not run like mud. Seriously, 5'ish seconds to touch the screen and have it redraw so I can press the trunk lift button?

It's better than having to mash HARD on the SYNC2 screen in my 2013 F-150 (which I ripped out and replaced with a SYNC3 from newer models), but only barely :p

I do not know. I only played with the Lincoln version for a short time and didn’t try to pair my phone. My sales guy explained that most of the features of the Lincoln Digital Experience (it’s the same thing) don’t work unless you log into Google. Conceptually, it’s actually very nice and smooth. While you can’t tell because of the way it’s designed, there are actually 3 separate screens in the pillar-to-pillar display (not including the IP screen). They do a good job of visually blending them so they look like one continuous display.

Does the audio cut out when you open or switch apps?

What's the point of posting this on a Mach-E forum, if Mach-Es will never have the technology? This should be posted in the Off-Topic section.

I would suggest you direct your question to @Administrator

I think it’s at least tangentially applicable as we don’t know the Ford Product Roadmap for the Mustang Mach-E. It would be reasonable to assume that, if there are future iterations, Ford would include an updated infotainment system.

They posted it to generate views to generate advertising eyeballs to generate revenue.

Not in my GM vehicle, audio is always running. But if you select a different audio source, then it drops until the new source is ready. For example, I can use FM, XM satellite, phone or a native streaming app as different audio sources. XM and streaming can take a few seconds to load new content.

I wonder if this will have a positive or negative impact on some of the things we’ve been waiting/hoping for in Sync 4a like routing to Tesla Superchargers, route planning in FordPass, manual (or CarPlay) preconditioning, something to replace the Public Charging app, and, of course, more karaoke.

Google maps in my GM vehicle has Tesla Superchargers in it, came two weeks after GM got access to Tesla chargers. You can also just plan routes in Google maps on your phone and send it to the vehicle directly, no need for any OEM app.

The idea that accessing a host of new functionality requires logging into Google was a hard pass for me and one of the reasons why I didn't buy a Volvo EV in 2022...
