Our Mache lease is up next month. We love the car and are going to buy it. I'm sure the dealer is going to offer extended Ford warranties. The car is two years old.

Any thoughts on whether these are a good value would be greatly appreciated. Also do the dealers have wiggle room on pricing?

Thanks in advance

Glad you love it so much, me too.

I'd highly recommend looking at pricing for similar used cars, these take a massive depreciation hit and often the residual buyout doesn't make sense. If it's not too far off it may be worth paying a bit more since your car is a known quantity, but you'll likely find more car for less money by turning it in and buying the same model used.

As to warranty, it's often not worth buying it from your selling dealer. Most dealers mark up the prices quite a bit, but there are a few that sell them at close to cost, Grainger and Flood come to mind. You can buy the same warranty from those low cost dealers after you purchase the car.

On line pricing for the Ford Protect extended warranty can be much better than many local dealerships. Each dealership sets their own price but the warranty coverage is the same no matter which dealer sells it and can be used at any Ford dealer.

Check out these three as examples.

https://www.floodfordesp.com/?gad_s...zSKscyAHYIKSr19lLuLWtHSxQlFjwT_hoCTrcQAvD_BwE

https://www.grangerford.com/fordprotect.html

https://www.zeiglerfordesp.com/defa...JqSNSuv0xdIj69U1lKSeaTywAyfSKSqhoCUZMQAvD_BwE

Keep in mind these warranties show time periods from the initial purchase. So a 6 year warranty is essentially a 3 year extention.

I ‘m still on my factory 3 year warranty but I purchased a 7 year 75,000 mile Ford protect extension for peace of mind. So my warranty gives me 4 years and 39,000 more miles past my factory warranty expiration.

Thanks a lot. Our price is $26k. The car is only 2 yrs old and only has 14kmi.

I didn't realize that Grainger & Flood were factory warranties -- I thought they were 3rd party.

I bought a 10 year ford extended warranty from Granger Ford for $2k, my 2021 had a $4,600 repair in year 4, was covered with no issue from my dealer. Never purchased an extended warranty in my life, but since no independent shops work on EV’s I decided (correctly) to spend the $2k.

I got my granger online and within 24hrs it showed up on my Ford account. Dealer easily saw it when doing warranty work.

It's a numbers game, and generally, you the consumer, will lose. There is a reason all the dealers push them, it's not because they care about you.

If worrying about an out of warranty repair cost keeps you up at night, buy it for the peace of mind, otherwise, spend your money elsewhere. My $.02.

very useful. I am extremely fortunate. My dealer is a 3rd gen family enterprise that does not see every customer as a mark. At very least, I can use online quotes to let them know I'm informed. Thanks a lot.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I have the same EV wariness.

Also, the Ford Protect extended warranty is refundable (prorated by time) if you sell /trade-in your Mach-E before the warranty is up. This is fantastic if your plans change.

It is worth it if you claim more than you paid :giggle:. One thing I gathered from a large number of posts is that if you have an issue outside of regular warranty, it can be quite expensive. I am generally mixed on getting a warranty, but I decided to get one for this vehicle as peace of mind.
I am sure we hear more about issues than about NOT having issues -- that is the nature of these forums. I also plan to keep my MME for a decade (still loving my '22 GT). I just noticed my first warranty issue: my heater stopped working, so I need to bring it in and I am past 3 yrs.

Make sure you have "lights" coverage. (Look for it specifically. I had to add it for my F-150 b/c it was left unselected on my original policy.) A headlight going bad is $1200+
