My dealer has told me that we will need to convert my order to a '23 on 8/25. A couple of people on these forums think there's no way he could've known that, but he isn't one to generally be guessing or making something up. I guess we will know in a few days.
My dealer told me, last week, the exact same thing. He also assured me that the price will not change.

He may be right, but he’s still guessing.

We know 2022s are going to still be built up until October, when they switch to 2023 models.

Zero chance he knows for a fact that your build date falls after October.

Now, he is correct that you CAN change to a 2023, but that would be a new order at new prices. Don’t let him make you.
Are you a dealer? So many people here speak with such authority and I have no idea where that comes from unless they are industry insiders.

Ford knows how many outstanding unscheduled 2022 orders they still have, how behind they are with what is already scheduled, and how many more they can build. So it is entirely feasible that they know which cars are so far down the priority list that they won't make the '22 cut. Its not like they use a random lottery to decide which cars to build.

I am good at reading people (it is important for my job). I don't get any kind of evasive or deceptive feel from this guy. He has made it clear when he's guessing in the past, or hasn't heard the official word. So when he says he actually knows something, vs "we haven't gotten the official word," or "I believe" then I am inclined to believe he isn't speculating. At any rate, the dealership overall is very reputable and straightforward to work with and there are no reviews online that hint at shady practices. I did notice an uptick in unprompted communication after Ford sent that "we promise to update you more" email.

He also told me that in the past when orders had to be converted to the next model year (and yes I understand what that entails with ordering another car), Ford offered private rebates/incentives to offset the increased cost. If he's trying to pull a fast one, he is saying all the wrong things.

All of the above aside, frankly, I am actually really hoping I can keep my place "in line" and order a '23, because I was limited to a Select standard range battery when I ordered the '22. I hope I would still be offered some kind of cost offset, even with upgrading the trim line/battery, but won't be surprised if that makes me ineligible.

Based on the build date groups chatter, build dates are still getting pushed back. With only this week left to get on the '22 build schedule, I will be surprised if they commit to building another 15k cars like I've seen discussed here. But that's just speculation. I guess we will see on Thursday.

Not that my resume matters, but I spent 8 years of my life doing marketing for dealerships. I’m well aware of how they receive information from manufacturers and the timing of it.

Unless there was an official memo that went out (which is possible, but we probably would have heard about it by now from the people here who do currently work at dealerships), your dealer is speculating.

Again, he could be right. But it’s highly unlikely he knows where your build date falls.

Build dates are available…… when they are available. There is no information your dealer gets about that ahead of time.

And all of this stuff? Subject to change.

Sure it’s possible that Ford just changed their entire process of doing things. But that also would surprise me.

One thing I have learned over the years is that dealers rarely have much good intel regarding ordering/production data until a vehicle is actually produced and in the transport process from facility to dealership. I have almost always had more data than my salesperson regarding my vehicle when ordering in the past. Been a few years since I ordered new though so maybe their intelligence sharing has increased.

Like many here i am waiting for the banks to open on 8/25 (or later if they shift) so I can order a '23 MME.

You may think Ford knows what they are doing but I have doubts. I ordered mine 1/28 and got a week of 9/5 build date sometime in August. Today I was told that the build date is unknown and I will get updated at least once every 45 days. At the same time my buddy who ordered in April will pick up his car next week. What gives.

2023 Mach-E timing?

I'd start with 5 degrees before top dead center statically and then tune by feel from there, but I''m old-school.
