I had to take my daughter and a friend to a high school homecoming dance and pick them up. I decided to do some heating tests. 29-30F.

1. Auto 3, 72F, seat and wheel heater on, 40 MPH average 2.7 mi/kWh
2. heat off, seat and wheel heater on , 40 MPH aversge, 3.7 mi/kWh
3. e heat set at 68F, Fan on manual 1, seat and wheel heater on, 40 MPH average, 3.1 mi/kWh

Are these on different days, or how did you let the car cool off to the same temp for each test?

Think this is very useful. Even if it’s not in laboratory conditions. I will use setting 3 on my day to day in winter to see how it goes.

I just did a journey with fan on 1 and heat on 20c (68f) and had 3.1kwh. Usually heating on means it’s around 2kwh.

Same temp, same day these were all done last evening. Similar traffic too.

All jaunts were 10-15 miles and I had 4 With the same speed limits and similar Elevations and roads. Fair weather too. It was the perfect opportunity as I had to pick up “the friend”, take them to the dance, return home, go get some items at the market for the wife, return home and then go get them from the dance. It just was an ideal time. No cooling off time. I only had about 20 mins max down time while stopping between tests. Consider it a steady state test starting at the same interior parameters each time.

The only difference was number of people in the car. I used intelligent cruise for all.

I did not get to test Heat at 68, fan manual 1, RECIRCULATION, seat and wheel on. I was happy to see that recirculation can be used with E-heat. That will be the ticket for my Winter driving..

I have to take the friend home this AM, so I may get a final recirculation test in a few hours if the weather cooperates And I condition the cabin. I hope it’s 30F but it may be warmer.

it was my first opportunity to see how the different heating settings can effect range.

nothing scientific, just curiosity with heating the Mach E for my first time. I am actually pleased I can stay comfy and still get 150+ miles In freezing temps.

once snow and ice hits, testing will be more difficult to get similar test conditions.

I encourage folks to do their own test to figure out their Ideal parameters for their commute or driving conditions and maximize their range while not sacrificing comfort.

One of your baseline tests has got to be no heat save maybe window defrost occasionally. Haha. I’ve tried that down to 45 degrees. ?. What actually works the best is say auto cabin heat at 68 F with recirculating on. I dress warmer in winter anyway and I’d use seat heat if I had it but that’s still no good for window defrost.
