My dealer has decided not to be an EV dealer after the Dec 31st deadline.
Couldn't get allocations for the 49 people reservation list they had for Lightnings (I was the first on the list in the first wave) . So I was their only reservation holder who took delivery last year. I was one of only three people who took deliveries of a Mach-E from this dealership in '21.
I just traded my '21J1 for a '23 GT-PE mannequin that came in (while I wasn't looking) back in May.
So about a week after that happened a truck rolls in with a Space White Lightning and three GTs. Well the Lightning was an order that somebody bailed on, and that's sitting in the back lot now. And the three GTs were sent as stock. And they're getting three more delivered soon. Again, all GTs, as stock.
They've contacted other dealers to see if they're interested. But nobody else wants them either. Even with rebates right now, they're just not moving (interest rates?). Part of it is the people who are local are just not interested in an electric vehicle of any kind or can't afford to write a check for one (again interest rates are stoopid right now).
But it's weird that they'll have six '23 GTs on the lot and never asked for them, and aren't really interested (due to cost and their market) in being an EV dealer but all of a sudden they've got plenty of stock and no takers.
I'm sure there are other small dealers in the same boat. I would expect larger dealers to have plenty of stock. But for a dealer like mine that never had any MMEs as stock before, this is pretty interesting. Most of what they did sell were out of town buys (the Lightning mannequin went to somebody in the Atlanta area).
