I believe they pushed it back to the 2025MY but knowing Ford it's probably delayed.Any idea when Android Automotive will be adopted in the MME?
My understanding is that Android Automotive is an operating system that runs in the car like SYNC. It would replace SYNC in future Ford EVs, not our current generation of Ford EVs.I'm confused. Is Android Automotive different than Android Auto?
This is correct. Not the best decision to use Auto/Automotive.... for different things, but ya.My understanding is that Android Automotive is an operating system that runs in the car like SYNC. It would replace SYNC in future Ford EVs, not our current generation of Ford EVs.
Android Auto/Car Play are phone projectors.
I think of it a little bit like app versus application. They mean different things to developer communities while remaining generally confusing in public understanding. This is correct. Not the best decision to use Auto/Automotive.... for different things, but ya.
Volvo uses Android Automotive and still allows Carplay to work. What is annoying is Android Automotive resembles Android Auto, but may be an older version. The advantage is a more consistent update process, though, which would be nice.Hopefully will have a chance to opt-out. The move to android automotive without CarPlay means we will be paying subscriptions and forced to give access to a ton of info from our phones.
Just ask new GM owners how great the experience is.
Haha. That's for sure! This is correct. Not the best decision to use Auto/Automotive.... for different things, but ya.
Ford's next-generation infotainment system is called the "Ford Digital Experience," and it does include support for wireless android auto and carplay.Hopefully will have a chance to opt-out. The move to android automotive without CarPlay means we will be paying subscriptions and forced to give access to a ton of info from our phones.

Ford has already said they will keep supporting CarPlay and Android Auto. Using Android Automotive does not preclude them from supporting phone projection.Hopefully will have a chance to opt-out. Having rented a few Volvos, the AA built-in seems to work well. It was snappier than Sync 4. I didn't think I would like having Google Maps built in but it was very niceVolvo uses Android Automotive and still allows Carplay to work.
