US government is preventing the Chinese cars coming in. So you don't have to worry too much for the legacy carmakers in the US. As an ordinary consumer, I want the cheaper Chinese cars. That new xiaomi SU7 max looks bright.Nice color choice, decent look, 2.8S 0-60, 101 KWH battery. I bet the software system is good too from a phone company. The car has an equivalent price of $42K USD. Man, if i can have that spec for $50K USD, I would be in line to buy. And that is just one of the many many offerings available in china. The low cost manufacturing and mature supply chain is simply superior.
They will make them in Mexico and ship them over here under usmca. And I don’t want to drive a Chinese made car, thank you very much.

I’m not worried about domestic legacy OEMs, as long as Tesla and Rivian survive.

One thing I noticed is how smoothly the car stops and starts off 0. Mach E has this weird little jerk when it comes to a full stop. And a very little judder when it starts off the line. In both instances, Tesla proved to be better. Incredibly smooth start and stop. I was quite impressed.
Is your car's software fully up to date? One of the updates in the last 6/7 months changed the braking to a stop behavior and it now brakes / stops like a human that knows how to brake to a stop without a jerk. It involves unloading the suspension before fully stopping.

I seriously doubt they will come in unless there is some written agreements. I would not make these big investments only to find out US passed some new rules/regulations to prevent the business.

On market speculation, tesla will be fine. Rivian though, I can't support them with that $80K price tag. Way over priced if you ask me. At least that full size EV SUV/truck market is niche now. Not sure if they can hold on until their cheaper models hit the market at the promised price and spec. The R1 price jacked up quite a lot. Even if they did manage to hold on, not sure if their R2 and R3 is competitive enough. Feels like some empty power point release to attract more investors and calm shareholders.

Oh is it? Thank you for sharing that. I had no idea. I was at 6.7 and then those FX updates started. I’ll keep an eye out. It’s not bad at all, but when compared with Tesla, the stops and start jerks in MME got more pronounced to me.

I disagree with you on Rivian. They have the cash to sustain themselves and by freezing Georgia and tapping Illinois for more tax incentives they bought themselves more time. Plus, the commercial vans are all over the place here in the city. They opened the biz up to others outside of Amazon. Their R1 suv is very good and their forecasts are based on leasing / selling 50k, which is not a lot. Their store in my block is humming with visitors. I have high hopes they’ll make it through and offer a non-Tesla alternative.

Every time I see a model Y go by, I assume it’s a soccer mom driving.

Every Cybertruck that goes by, I definitely picture that guy. ?
There is a YouTube video about CyberTruck where the maker guy named Lucky Lopez says “most of the drivers of this truck are gonna be either soccer moms, or crypto bros driving to their court dates or child support hearings”, I literally hadn’t laughed that hard in days until I heard that LMAO.

I mean I see like 5 every day which is a lot given how fresh the company is. Even my wife noticed it the other day and said they are everywhere. Sure I see about 50 Subarus but I see maybe one Mach E a week lol. And if Mach E is this rare of a sight, forget about the rest of the brands.

I secretly and sincerely want Rivian to succeed. But it’s going to be a very difficult road ahead for them.

Their earning is negative. If they can't turn it around and sell cars at profit in the upcoming years. it is a matter of time. Maybe some one will buy them out though. Anyway, none of my business, I am not their customer or shareholder. Just a speculator. But reading the Fisker stuff does make me giggle. $70K car to $25k in 3 months. The hit is instant once you fail.

Looks like they’re selling the Oceans for $24k off sticker at the moment ($61k to $37k). Not quite 70k to 25k but that’s a serious price drop!

While that company is in deep trouble, I have personally never ONCE seen even ONE car by that brand and I have traveled a lot in the last five years on the road. I have seen a “SUGAR TON” of Teslas, a handful of Rivians, a handful Mach E, and very few “others” combined.

If we are observing that non-Tesla brands that are still selling thousands of cars are in hot water, talk about a brand that didn’t sell fraction of that! I’m not surprised. Sad. But true.

I see a Fisker Karma every once in a while. Only seen one Ocean when I was in Miami.

There was a owner who bought ocean one for $75K out the door, and he went 2 ask Carmax for trade in just after 3 month he got the car because of the news. Carmax offered around $22K. Market price for used one is probably $25K. That new sticker is just their asking price. Not sure many will take the leap of faith to take their inventory clearance. EVs require proprietary software to diagnose and repair.

Also, see this article.
