Mach-E wannabuy

Recent Ford news and Farley's comments on EV have me wondering about MME's longevity. Ford claimed it is losing stupid money on each MME sold. Just not sure.... not sure at all. This may be a one and done product. Hope I am wrong though as I really like the MME.
With the new Chinese tariffs, I think domestic brands have bought themselves more time to slow roll EV products and are now pivoting to hybrids.
The Mach-e sells for a price which covers its production cost. Same for Lightning.

What is not covered is the huge expense of an Engineering team to develop a bunch of new EV vehicles, plus the cost of building what is essentially a new city in Tennessee/Kentucky to build these new products and batteries. Assume "production cost = selling price" for every current BEV sold, then multiply the Ford BEV sales volume by the rumored "loss" per BEV. That should give you an estimate of the investment Ford is making in BEVs right now. Hint: If your math is correct, then annually you should get a dollar amount that starts with a B...

I'll drive mine until the wheels fall off, but after that, probably not. I

Never got anywhere close to the advertised range of the vehicle (I tend to average about 80% of what Ford said a CaRT1 should get, and I don't have a lead foot). Ford's software updates are buggy as hell and end up breaking stuff (1st broke my BC, now I have the 1PD bug) AND Ford won't own up to them and fix the problems they cause out of warranty. Oh yeah, and Ford wants $800/yr so I can keep using the BC hardware installed in my car already, although they haven't provided any meaningful updates (feature or driving area) to make it worth paying even $1 beyond the sticker price of the car.

As a commuting vehicle it is okay, but after a couple of road trips I'm kind of soured to driving it on a trip where it will require more than 1 visit to a DCFC away from home. Just spend more time than I'd like either waiting for a charger to free up, or just the time spent charging in general.

I have A '21 Demo vehicle with 28,000 miles. When there are no issues (and there usually aren't), I love this car. Unfortunately, my wife cannot ride in it without getting motion sickness. This seems to be true in any electric car so because of that, I will not be getting another one anytime soon. I will look to replace it with a PHEV like a Volvo X6 Recharge.

Have a 21 GTPE that's coming up on our 3 year ownership anniversary. If I knew then what I know now I wouldn't have bought the car. First I bought the wrong color, cyber orange was my favorite but it attracts too many morons on the road wanting to race or always speeding up to cut off. The level of deprecation gap between ICE and this BEV is much greater than I anticipated. Performance shortfalls were and still are a pain point. (Yes I know about the 24's). So no plans on another MME

just pre-ordered a '24 GT Vapor Blue. Due in to dealer in about 4 weeks.

trade-ins for any EV's right now are taking a big hurt though.

I think by the time my lease is up I'd be interested for sure- hypothetically by that point there will be a fully new model available with NACS charging, and they'll have figured out the value proposition- because right now actually BUYING a Mach-E instead of leasing is a massive risk with the depreciation hits they've taken. It's a fantastic vehicle that is at the mercy of market pricing if you're financing or paying cash- you could be upside down driving off the lot the way things have gone. Leasing at least gives me peace of mind that I can drive it and let Ford worry about the hit at the end.

This applies to manufacturing. Tooling up costs I get it. But at this rate, the losses will become untenable. I see they have already and happily pivoted to hybrids.

Ford is Losing More and More Money With EV Business

Ford just reported a massive loss on every electric vehicle it sold

Everyone do your part! ?

Would I buy another MachE? Not if there aren't some changes made. I love driving it, I hate operating it. Push button doors that SOMETIMES open the door, no physical buttons for functions that are used a lot while driving, no charging info on the screen, the iPad glued to the dash ugliness, etc. Ford made some bad design decisions, and hopefully they will make this car more usable in the future.

I had a 2021, bought the car we ordered in 2021 that ended up being a 2022 and sold the 2021.

Today, I would not buy one. Ford has to show me their ability to successfully update BlueCruise, change their subscription renewal prices to something more reasonable, show me that the HVBJB issue is really solved, and show me that they are improving their service network. 3 years in, I am not of a favorable mindset.
I'm with you on this. Blue Cruise has never worked on my 21 premium. It's currently at the dealership for the third time to try and solve it and I dropped it off over 2 months ago. Going on month 3 without my car and I'm about to get a $24k bill to pay off the optons plan.

Depends on the price. At $35K for a Premium AWD ER, heck yeah. $40K maybe not.

No EV perfect. I wanted better efficiency and range from my Ioniq 5, more passenger/cargo space from my i4, regular controls on my 21 ID.4, and normal suspension on my R1S.

Today, I’d push folks to lease an EV short term and not consider it for road tripping. There are plenty of options that fit that criteria.
I have almost exactly the same sentiments. We have a 21 Premium AWD ER and have had zero problems. Like others, we have a seven year, 125,000 extended warranty. So, the plan is to keep it at least through that time. Periodically, the mirror refuses to fold and my wife cannot avoid getting small dents in the vehicle. Still, it is comfortable (except on bad roads where it is bouncy) somewhat and looks great. Our iX was awesome, but it was in the shop on different things three times in the year we had and cargo space was terrible for the size of that vehicle. Our R1S is great but the air suspension is terrible. It is probably great for off-roading and water fording, which I rarely (think never) get to do other than when we have a downpour. Still, would I get another MME in a few years maybe when it is around eight or ten years old? It really depends on what else is out there. If we were to get a new EV now or in the next year, I would probably go with a Lyric (if it eventually gets Magnetic Ride), Porsche Macan EV or the Land Rover EV (depends on cost) when they come out. If we are talking about the same price range as the MME, I probably would not get anything in the $50k range right now because nothing is all that appealing (Model Y - meh, MME - mmh, Polestar - meh, XC40 - no, Q4 etron - no, EV6 - no thanks, Ioniq5 - nope, Niro - no thank you).

My wife has a Mach e GT which I want to get my hands on. I will get her a MME of lessor trim level so I can take the GT
She loves the car but does not need the performance. She loves the new green color.

I love this car. Have a Jeep Trail Hawk for long trips and to haul stuff.

I've had my '21 GTPE over 2.5 years now and was curious if any other owners have any opinions on their next vehicle, will you go for a newer mach e with the latest software and slightly better efficiency, or are you thinking about looking elsewhere? At 3 years the basic warranty is done along with free trials on a lot of the tech features. I think the depreciation is greater than other similarly priced vehicles. Just curious on others opinions on this.
I am on my second Mach-E. My 21 was a dog and Ford bought it back and gave us a great deal for a 2023. They paid off our loan and refunded all the cash plus the trade in value. Ford really stepped up for us.

Wouldn't she have the same issues in a PHEV while it's in electric mode?

We’ll see what the market looks like when our lease runs out in 2026?

If they offer me the Mach-E for pennies on the dollar, will probably become a two car family again with the MachE becoming grandpa’s toy (of what I will then mod the heck out of ?).

regardless of whether we return the MME to the lease, trade it in or purchase, if Ford doesn’t get its battery range significantly better I’m afraid we’ll have to start looking at another brand probably Rivian (I spoke to one of the Rivian senior engineers at a charge station, and he is confident they will have a 600 mile truck by 2026.)
