Anyone planning on buying another mach e?

I've had my '21 GTPE over 2.5 years now and was curious if any other owners have any opinions on their next vehicle, will you go for a newer mach e with the latest software and slightly better efficiency, or are you thinking about looking elsewhere? At 3 years the basic warranty is done along with free trials on a lot of the tech features. I think the depreciation is greater than other similarly priced vehicles. Just curious on others opinions on this.

Considering the horrendous depreciation on these vehicle, unless it gets better, I will not be going for another one. I would have bought a Tesla if they had CarPlay.

Why would you bring up depreciation and then call out Tesla like your issue wouldn't have been as bad, if not worse? The number of Tesla owners that bought vehicles like the Model Y at the $60k+ range and then Tesla dropped prices, multiple times, bringing them as low as the $40s, killing the value on those vehicles, is pretty significant. They aren't really in a better position.

The depreciation was a likely issue which is why many MME owners did the Options program, it seemed almost certain that prices would drop on the vehicles in general as manufacturing capacity increased and costs went down.

There was a period where Teslas maintained their resale value, but that was years ago now. When you can get a brand new one within 30 days in most of their models, their resale position is about the same as an MME.

I am in the middle of a 4 year Options Financing plan. After it is up, I will probably refi the balloon. I plan on keeping this ‘21 GT-PE a while. Since there is currently nothing available that tickles my fancy in my price range, there’s nothing else for me to look at. We shall see in 5-8 years. ?‍?

Some states do that, MN has a $2500 rebate on lease or purchase. Ford is offering the $7500 on leases. So you could get $10k off here

I picked mine up three days before the earliest date one could claim the rebate. Who knew? ?

Ask me in 2028 and the answer will be maybe. The biggest thing that might kill me buying another mach e is I might need a larger car.

The glass roof was an option that came with my CR1 package. The roof has had to be replaced twice due to rock chips resulting in cracks. Never again will I get a big panoramic glass roof.

My Scion tC had a full glass roof years ago when I had it (though, holy shit, I bought that almost 20 years ago now), but it was in two pieces so I could open one part as a sunroof. There were a handful of them that essentially "exploded" either from temperature fluctuation/heat stress or an impact. And there was also a little popup glass deflector in the front that broke for some as well. I think that part even had a recall or TSB or something to add a laminate film to the back to keep it from shattering.

I never had any issues with mine, thankfully - but again, at least that one let me open it up and get some air.

If the price didn't come down they were going to have issues.

I enjoy my car, but I wouldn't even have been looking at a Mach E for 60k+ they wanted last year.

But if new Mach E's magically dropped another 20k in two years I won't complain...means we are finally starting to market affordable vehicles again.

Yeah, it's a bit surprising if people were caught off guard by it. The tax credit alone has been a depreciation hit for EVs and PHEVs for as long as it's been around. We leased a 2016 C-Max Energi that was eligible for the full tax credit and we got it on the lease price. It was a great deal, but after two or three years, I forget now what that one was, I was shocked at the time to see the residual value was only about $18k. More than 50% value lost in such a short time. But a big part of it was if you tried to sell a used one you had to fight against new ones that came with some amount of rebate + a $7500 credit, meaning a new one with an MSRP of $40k was really only $32,500 at most.

Same basic thing is happening with the MME and most EVs. Someone may say they can't believe their $50k MME is already only worth $35k, or whatever (just tossing out numbers), but for many owners it was actually a $42,500 MME, and $35k after 2 or 3 years isn't too bad.

The market doesn't really care if you actually got that tax credit, or had enough tax burden to claim it. If the new market can get it then it will have downward pressure on new sales. For a while there when Teslas were demanding higher used values it was when they were no longer eligible for the tax credit, so a new one was actually $50k, and a used one going for $35k was a deal.

Now that Tesla's and other vehicles are eligible again, the Teslas still do alright on residual, comparing a new one today to the used market, but not as well as they once did now that most of their product line has a built in $7500 discount.

2021 Premium AWD EX picked up in Feb. 2022. 23K miles. And no major problems with the vehicle and I still love it. The most enjoyable car to drive that I've had since my 1977 Toyota Celica GT manual. I'm planning on keeping it for many more years, 10 or more. Unless some other EV comes along with double the range and is as enjoyable to drive and looks as good.

Only issues I've had is with my local Ford dealer service which has been a pain scheduling and getting them to do recalls. If that continues, I likely won't buy another Ford.

You know, I love my 21 GTPE, buuuutttt, considering the unnecessary throttling that Ford put in the car, and the fact that it looks like they won’t ever relax it for existing cars, has left a really bad taste in my mouth. When the time comes, I might get a slightly used I5N.

I’ve had 3 Teslas including the Plaid. I bought a used 22 MachE GT. My opinion is for the money the car is better made and interior is really nice. The issue is Musk did it 100% right with the charging stations…fantastic!
