My wife made up some organic weed-killer (vinegar, salt & dish detergent) and drove over to work in the church garden. Unfortunately she placed the gallon bottle with only a snap cap loose in the back of the Mach E. Someone stopped quickly in traffic, so did she, the bottle fell over, and the cap came off. While the rubber protector for the luggage area in back contains mud well, it doesn't do so well for a few quarts of vinegar.

She removed everything from the back, washed and dried that area but the vinegar went under the back seat. We checked the repair manual and popped up the rear seat to dry the foam bottom and air it out. It still smells like vinegar, but not nearly as strong.

If you've wondered why the back seat ride is firm, it's because you only have a small amount of foam between you and the metal floor. The upholstery is held in place by a cord that is pulled tight.

Back to the question: Has anyone removed/replaced that rear seat foam? We are considering loosening the cord on the upholstery to remove the foam to wash and dry it. However, it looks like one of those things that will never be the same when you try to put it back together and tighten the cord. That's why I'm wondering if anyone has done it.

***Before you respond why she didn't put it in the frunk, I asked the same question. The answer was "Good idea. I thought it was sealed and I never think about using the frunk." As a First Edition owner, it's only been a month or so since we finally received the update that allows opening of the frunk using the Sync 4A screen, so using the frunk isn't a habit for her. I won't get into the rest of that conversation

ouch. I have not taken the seat apart. But, for what it's worth, in worst case scenario if you can't salvage the foam, Village Ford in Dearborn shows the following on their website. A local Ford store could probably get it too. I stumbled across Village Ford looking for something for my car. My impression is they seem to do a reasonably substantial online parts business. Not sure I'd do the job myself. I guess I'd be more inclined to take it to an auto upholstery shop. Although a long haul for you, there is a very good one in Chantilly called Lim's. They've done a couple of jobs for me on a Honda and an Acura. The work was perfect. Replacement of front leather seating surfaces. I found them through the Acura dealer. Lim's does a lot of dealer work. You might check with your local Ford shop and ask who they send the cars out to for upholstery if it's not a job you want to undertake. Good luck.

i replaced the seat covers in my last mustang. its not as bad a job as you think.

honestly the lower back seat is the easiest, and quite doable yourself. ignore the naysayers.

if its a matter of patching the existing foam once you remove the cover, not too bad with a bread knife, foam, and scotch 77 spray adhesive.

otherwise, buy replacement foam from Ford.

Might be easiest to get a replacement seat from a scrapyard.
Now adays the better recyclers are interconnected on the web, and if a local one doesnt have it, they may find someone to ship to em for you.

baking soda dissolved in water to wash 'em would be my first go, whether you strip the cover off first or not. squish the foam to suck it in as you do it. wont hurt if some baking soda remains behind. No odor
sunbake on a nice hot day to dry.

likely some trapped between cover and foam, so I'd remove the cover and treat it too.

upholtstry shops will strip it for you and re- cover when you are done, if you dont want to tackle that part. only take em a few minutes.

:)
