I realize that Auto Insurance is very specific to the insured driver's profile and record, their geography, etc., but are there any Auto Insurers that so far appear to be cheaper for MMEs, or conversely, that are too expensive for the MME and that people are steering away from?

I have my MME on the way, it will probably be registered next week... I have AllState for Homeowners and had them for Auto last time I owned a car almost 12 years ago.
Driver age: 50+
Location: NYC
Car will be garaged, very light driving pattern, I estimate 7,500-8000 miles/year.

I will be quoting with AllState, Hartford(AARP), but if there are other insurers that people are gravitating toward, I'll consider them.

I have only used State Farm for many years. The two claims I have had in 36 years were handled smoothly and cost seems reasonable. Mach insurance was less than my Expedition which is what I would have expected. I live in Alaska and just my experience.

The easy answer is that there is no company that is better for EVs than any other. I would assume that NYC is not a cheap market - but we're in Michigan - formerly the most expensive state, now the second most expensive state.

How long is a piece of string? If you can answer that, I can provide the best insurance company. :) Seriously,it will depend upon which state, what city and what you want. I have had State Farm for the last 39 years and like the service. I was with my first agent for almost 20 years and he was awesome. My friends don't care about service and want the least expensive insurance and go with Geico. I like their commercials and the Gecko, but not going to go to them. Other say, Farmers and AAA have good insurance. Shop around to find what you want. I agree with others, I do not think anyone gives dismounts for BEV's. I would think they would figure it out that BEV's tend to have instant acceleration and raise the cost of coverage. Of course, they all have staticians doing number crunching and probably will figure it out.

USAA is great if you qualify. Depends upon whether you want cheap or good.:)

I have Nationwide and replaced my 2019 Acura RDX SH-AWD Advance with the Mach-E Premium 4X. My policy went up about $400/year. I didn’t think that was tremendously terrible. They also have handled one rear-end accident with it and didn’t drop me or anything. ?‍♂

It's worth getting a broad range of quotes. No shortcuts, unfortunately, but once you have all the information on hand, getting ten quotes isn't much harder than getting two. One recommendation I have is to go for a low comprehensive deductible or glass policy if available. I've needed two windshields and a panoramic roof replaced due to rock chips in the last 18 months.

I suggest you will learn a lot more by doing a search on Forum thread titles that contain the word insurance. You will find a treasure-trove of actual experiences already discussed by owners.

We have Progressive for home and 2 cars. Switched from a 2019 BMW X1 to a premium AWD MME for my car and hubby has a Tesla. It only changed by like $5/mo or so for us. Wasn't too bad of a jump in price for having two EVs on the policy.

Insuring an EV is disastrously expensive in my experience. We went from paying under 1K per year for a 2018 Tundra to almost 1.6K for the 2021 MME. We paid less for the MME than the Tundra, both purchased new. Unbelievable the cost to ensure the electric. We have liberty mutual with discounts from work. It really didn't matter which carrier we chose (had my agent look into it). They were all about the same.

I just quoted with AllState, with a different agent than my own for home because my home agent takes my business for granted.... I haven't owned a car in nearly 12 years, and boy I'm in for sticker shock...
I'll quote with another company now.

So, one of the AllState discounts is for DriveWise... it sounds vaguely familiar... but if I'm going to drive around at all times with an app on at all times... it has all kinds of implications.

Does anyone use DriveWise or similar for their insurance?
Does it have to be on at all times, what happens if you are driving and your phone is off, battery dead, forgot phone?

Like the agent said to me, that I just leave it on at all times whether I am driving or not and it would just know if I'm driving... This would have more info on me than even Google does :oops::rolleyes:o_O

I tried searching our forums for DriveWise, got no hits.

Progressive gave us a great rate combined with homeowners worth a try

Nationwide here (with homeowners policy). Mine went up as expected when upgrading from an older Accord.

They handled my claim smoothly when I was hit & run victim. I didn't have to jump through a lot of hoops IMO.
