I have the same issue with my Mach E, dealership told me they couldn't hear anything and sent me on my way, but the clunking is still happening. Started on the right side of the vehicle when I turned, now it's on the left as well. I have a first generation Mach E and this clunking noise started at around 2,000 miles and seems to be getting worse. Have another appt. with the dealer, but I am getting very discouraged with this car.
This likewise describes my experience. The service center ultimately agreed to replace both CV joints - not because they specifically diagnosed that was the issue - but because Ford now seems to be recommending this based upon getting lots of similar complaints. I was set to have the work done today, but now one of the joints is delayed until after Christmas, so I'm taking the car back today.

It's not a massive deal right now, but I do worry it will get worse because it seems to have been getting worse over time. So I obviously want to get it fixed while still under warranty.

Unfortunately, I’m joining this discussion. So far, my car only makes the noise when taking left turns, but not right turns.

Questions: Has any one got this issue fully resolved? If so, what’s the root cause? Is the fix expected to be permanent or just buying an extra year of time? What’s the harm if I wait for a few months before getting this fixed?

Joining this thread. My mache has also had this issue and had been at the dealer since early November. They’re going to call me tomorrow with an update. I’ve also been speaking with the mache manager at ford Corp in regards to these issues so at least they’re aware. I’ll post a video with my sound.

I'll add my thoughts here too since it seems to be my issue as well - half shaft. 3300 miles on the AWD ER Premium. Noticed it when turning right, but seems to have gotten worse a bit and also turning left now. It's been a the dealership (I have to give high marks to them and their service department too) and they've been diagnosing it with the Ford Engineers. Part on backorder and pushed as an emergency replacement, so hopefully it'll be here soon. I did ask if they need to keep it, but was told it was still safe to drive. Good thing with holidays coming up. I trust them too. While they had it, they applied the latest update too. It was funny to watch the app go from 148 miles left to suddenly 214 miles.

I’m back in my car while the service center waits on the parts to replace both CV joints. Now I’m hearing numerous people say “half shafts.” It seems pretty clear we’re all experiencing a very similar problem, but it is difficult to diagnose and service centers are taking different approaches. I’d sure like to know the answer before they start cutting up my car again.

Thank you for the video. That is exactly what I hear too. More left than right. Mine goes in on Tuesday for the recall, update and evaluation of the noise. They are also going to give me a number for trading it in on something else.

I'm just too particular about things that you pay for and don't cut the mustard. I've had mostly German products and they have served me well. I've had Lincolns and Cadillacs that were good too, but I'm aggravated at times with the car, and then think this is a fun car to drive. It's the little stuff that is driving me crazy. The dealer had ordered a trim piece to be replaced. Ford reached out to me after my rant. It turns out the part came in almost 2 months ago, but I wasn't notified. Yesterday the general manager had the Assist. Service Manager and the service writer standing at attention in his office asking for an explanation.

So, things may get better.

I'm hoping the 2022 models are better. The dealer is pricing a PE for me.

Got it, thanks for the replay. I have been a Porsche and BMW owner for decades and really Haven’t had aNy issues to speak of and concerned about service from Ford, you pay more at the German dealerships but they try to treat customers well, not always works but the effort is generally there. Not sure what will happen with Ford, a little leary to say the least. I know I am spoiled. Hopefully my end of the year car will fare better than earlier production cars.

good luck

My car makes the same noise, going left or right, it's not a "clunk" sound, it's more like a rattle.
I don't think its the half shaft axles.

I'm wondering what the total number of repairs on axles have been to date ? Any indication of a recall or VIN time period having similar issues?

So far, I am not aware on any forums that someone has said they have had this particular issue resolved but I had the Drive/Half Shaft replaced and I still have the clunking/rattling sounds so it's not them!

Hope you guys in the US have better luck with your dealers and Ford Customer Service, it's somewhat challenging the UK as they are not that attentive!

Not only do I need the clunk/rattle sorted, I need a new front windscreen as the heating elements do not work and I need a new Sync Module as have multiple software issues and the sync module won't take the software update.

It also needs multiple software updates according to the FRDS.

The joy of owning a Ford!
