And some clueless idiots that just walk on behind you when backing up.

It's a ridiculous law, can anyone tell me that a '24 model year 4 cylinder car going 5 mph in reverse is louder then my MME?

I seriously doubt it, so why don't ICE vehicles have to complie?

It's a law written with FUD in mind instead of data.
Yes, a 24 model year 4 cylinder is significantly louder. Without the backup noise and pedestrian sounds, my car is nearly silent.

Anyone who has walked anywhere in a parking lot in the last decade has had a hybrid or BEV “sneak up on them” even with the pedestrian noise.

Most safety stuff is annoying on purpose. I don’t wear a seatbelt for comfort.

It’s data driven. Feel free to research the exhaust decibels at idle and compare those to the noise our cars make.

It’s funny how “FUD” is the argument against conspiracy theories and now FUD has become the conspiracy theory argument itself.

How many of you guys can’t stand the annoying backup sound generated by the MME? I wish ford would provide an alternative sound or five to choose from. Truly this is the thing I absolutely hate about my car.
I got SO many complaints in my Highlander Hybrid because there was no sound and I had that car for 14 years. Now, almost 4 years in w/ my MME, people hear me, no close calls. But I would be ALL in for a choice of sounds.

My Volvo PHEV has a backup sound like a sonar on a submarine. Much more creative than my MME, and I find it much less annoying.

Took the car in for tint today, when they pulled it in I got to hear the back up sound for the first time. Only had it a few days and haven't been noticing it from inside. Would be nice to have an option to change the sounds.

Maybe the beeper should be better enclosed so the sound is heard outside but not from inside the car.

The Pedestrian Safety Enhancement Act was the result of years of lobbying by vision impaired advocacy groups without any real science to back it up. The studies on the efficacy of adding additional noise pollution for pedestrian safety are dubious at best.

This was a case of “ounce of cure” overriding “pain in the ass” and common sense.

The most beneficial use of backup sounds is the feeling of moral virtue it lends to its defenders.

The klaxon gives me big box truck energy, I'm game. I hope it annoys the neighbors I don't like.
